Ayaansh is a Kindergarten student at  Apeejay School, Nerul, who loves to pick up his pencil and draw whatever catches his fancy. His drawings are undoubtedly cute but the little painter is cuter. Selected as this week’s Aspiring Artist, his mother Mrs Sarika Nikalji shares her thoughts on her son’s skills and gives us an insight into his artistic mind. Read edited excerpts:

Since when did Ayaansh start drawing?

He started drawing when he was 4-year-old. He has not gone to any art classes or taken any training in particular. He just observes his surroundings and draws on his own.

Which art form is his favourite and why?

He likes figure drawing, he observes his surroundings or sometimes videos and draws the figures present by looking at them.

How does the school encourage him as an artist?

The school has excellent teachers at pre-primary levels, who have a lot of experience in handling the kids. They are good observers who know what each kid is capable of.

I would like to mention the name of Debali Banerjee ma’am, who was Ayansh’s class teacher in KG. She has always been a strong support for grooming my child, recognising his skills and guiding me as to how I can further hone his skills. Even Mausami ma’am, his current class teacher, is very appreciative of my kid’s talent.

How much time does it take for Ayansh to complete an artwork? What are the common ideas and themes?

It depends on what he is drawing, mostly he draws sketches which take 20 minutes or sometimes even more.He likes to draw what he has seen around him. So all the figures one sees in day to day life.

His upcoming artworks?

It all depends on what he likes to draw.  He doesn’t have anything fixed as a subject yet.

A new artform he wishes to learn?

His interests lie in technical drawing i.e. in drawing figures such as trains or buildings what he sees around him. So, he will continue with that at present.

Any other hobbies in addition to art?

He loves to give speeches and has good command over languages. He  bagged the first prize in English recitation, clay modelling and drawing competitions last year. He got the second prize in drawing this year as well and is waiting for the other results.
