Yuvraj Sharma, the talented young artist from Jalandhar, earns position in the Magic Book of Records 2022

The 7-year-old has set a record for making Chess characters using clay moulding technique

A student of class 1 at Apeejay School, Mahavir Marg, Yuvraj Sharma is passionate about making new innovative things. “So that he doesn’t pick up the habit of using mobile phones, we made him enjoy his hobbies,” says his mother, Dr Ravinder Kaur, an Entrepreneur. In an interview, the mother-son duo talks about Yuvraj’s recent achievement. Edited excerpts:

How did you get to know about the competition?

Dr Ravinder Kaur (Mother): He joined Dream Works Academy for drawing classes where trainer is Khushi Saini mam. He started getting appreciated for his creativity by the academy, school teachers, principal and relatives. Further, he developed interest in clay moulding and started making unique things using clay. Then we decided to make him participate in a competition and found an online platform of Magic Book of Records and decided to enroll him.

How was your clay moulding art unique?

Yuvraj: I made all the pieces of Chess and that made me win this competition. 

Dr Ravinder Kaur (Mother): Playing chess with his father, Dr Inderpal Sharma is something Yuvraj enjoys a lot. One day, a piece of Chess was lost and he decided to make it from clay. During the time of competition, he said he wants to make his favourite game with clay.

How did Yuvraj develop interest in clay moulding?

Yuvraj: One day, my mother gave  me clay and asked me to make whatever I like in my free time. I have created so many things with clay like tea cup and plate, power rangers, chess characters, and many more.

Dr Ravinder Kaur (Mother): Supreet Kaur mam played a major role in developing his interest in art and craft. She encouraged him throughout and Yuvraj started making new innovative things with clay. We were very surprised, when we saw him making characters of Chess within 5 minutes. Now he is habitual of making other clay objects like Ravan, Hanuman ji, sword , gun, etc.

Since what age is Yuvraj practicing clay moulding?

Yuvraj: I used to play with mud in our garden. Then I did the same with wheat flour. So one day my father brought clay for me and I started making different characters with clay.

Dr Ravinder Kaur (Mother): To avoid the habit of using mobile phones, we made him busy with activities that could develop his creativity and thinking power. In fact, we never stopped him from spoiling walls, doors to bring out his creativity. He is very creative that he can even make a robot from tape.

How did Yuvraj learn clay moulding?

Yuvraj: I started making different things with clay on my own.

Dr Ravinder Kaur (Mother): Till Upper KG he was doing drawings and when he got promoted to Class 1, clay moulding was introduced in Apeejay School. Since last few months, he has started making innovative things with the help of his teacher. We always allowed him to enjoy his own company.

How long did you practice clay moulding before the competition?

Yuvraj: I was making different things with clay on a regular basis.

Dr Ravinder Kaur (Mother): He started making different elements with clay during summer holidays.

Are you planning to participate in any other competition?

Yuvraj: Yes, I am preparing for the Science and English Olympiad which will be held in Apeejay School, Mahavir Marg.

What extracurricular activities does Yuvraj enjoy?

Yuvraj: I enjoy Skating and playing karate.

Dr Ravinder Kaur (Mother): He enjoys skating. I believe he is so flexible that he can do wonders in Gymnastics and we are planning to provide him with professional training.

What are your other hobbies?

Yuvraj: I like to play chess and invent new things with my creativity.

Dr Ravinder Kaur (Mother): Drawing is his favourite hobby. He also enjoys playing chess and cooking with my help.

What is your ambition?

Yuvraj: I want to achieve more and more awards.

Dr Ravinder Kaur (Mother): I want to see Yuvraj as a good artist with his own abilities.
