The multi-talented girl writes, paints and even does sculptures. Selected as this week’s Aspiring Artist, Ana mentions how much time it takes her to make an artwork, her definition of art and hobbies beyond the paint brush.

Read edited excerpts:

Since when did you start drawing?

I have been drawing since I was 8 years old. And coincidentally, it is also 8 years since I have picked the brush.

That’s great! So which art form do you like the most and why?

I honestly can’t choose one favourite art form. My favourite art forms are mixed media, painting and sculpture. I love the way colours blend when I paint on canvas or a different material.

I love painting because it allows me to use a variety of colors and techniques to create expressive artworks. I also love how the colours blend together. I was always amazed by how I can transform raw materials into 3D forms. Mixed media is fascinating because it encourages experimentation by combining various materials and techniques. I can blend painting, collage, and even objects to create unique artworks.

And how does your school support you as an artist?

My school has always supported my passion for art by providing me with time, materials and an amazing teacher, who has guided me and made me a better artist. I’m truly grateful for their support.

Every artist has their own definition of art. What’s yours?

To me, art is a form of expressing yourself. I always say – when words aren’t enough, pick up a paint brush.

How much time does it take you to complete one artwork? What are the common ideas and themes?

It usually takes me 2-3 weeks to complete an artwork if I’m working on it for 1-2 hours daily. I’m usually caught up with school work and that’s why it takes me pretty long to complete an artwork. The common ideas/themes in my artworks are expressing what’s important to me. Recently, I made three artworks that were related to current global issues.

Any upcoming artwork?

Right now I’m focused on academics but I am thinking of getting back into pottery.

A new artform you wish to learn?

I would love to learn digital art. I think it is so intricate and fascinating.

Lastly, other hobbies apart from art?

I really love to write short stories or poems. I have been doing so since I was 12-13 years old. I even wrote a collection of short stories which I might publish after some editing.
