US Ambassador to India, Eric Garcetti, advocated on November 20, 2023 for more extensive discussions between India and the US to establish a regulatory framework for Artificial Intelligence (AI). He suggested that such collaboration could serve as an exemplar of a “multiplicative relationship” between the two democratic nations.
Speaking at an Observer Research Foundation session, Garcetti stressed the urgency of proactively addressing AI-related challenges to avert potential catastrophic consequences. While noting previous in-depth conversations on the matter, he mentioned the absence of any formal proposals from either side. Garcetti highlighted President Joe Biden’s recent executive order mandating AI manufacturers to assess vulnerability, data usage, and performance measurements.
During the India-US 2+2 dialogue, Garcetti underscored progress in enhancing the defense partnership and emphasised the critical importance of operational aspects in military collaboration.
