Good schooling is necessary for a child as it works as a secret ingredient to gain material achievements in life. A good school provides knowledge that acts as guidance for the future professional journey. Therefore, it is important to choose a school that not only promotes theoretical knowledge but focuses on practical skills as well. One such school is Apeejay School, Saket.

Therefore, Shruti Malhotra, mother of Devika Singh Thagurathi, a student of KG studying at Apeejay School, Saket chose this particular school for her daughter. “It has brand value, a long legacy, and extensive room of practical knowledge,” Malhotra said.

Excerpts from the interview

Why did you decide to choose this school?

Apeejay Education is an esteemed institute with a stellar reputation. Its outstanding art of infrastructure, and the faculty compelled us to take this decision. I have not regretted choosing this school.

Is she involved in any extracurricular activities?

Yes. Devika is enthusiastic about extracurricular activities. She is a member of the sports club at school. She actively participates in table tennis as well as other sport activities. She is good at academics as well. She is extremely fond of Math. She is also good at languages like Hindi and English.

What are your ways of spending quality time with your daughter?

I am a working mother and have limited time at home. However, I ensure that whatever time I spend with my daughter is worthwhile. We make the most of it by playing, talking about her school day, and reading storybooks in the evening. During our everyday school drop-off, we recite poems together, making it both fun and a learning experience for my child.

Kids are generally fussy going to school. Was Devika one of them?

Honestly, for every kid leaving their parents and going to school for four to five hours every day sounds like a nightmare. Devika felt the same way at first, but the teachers and caregivers at Apeejay did an amazing job taking care of her. Gradually, she settled into the school routine, gained confidence, and even started eating on her own.

Positive changes in her behaviour since she joined the school?

She has become extremely confident and outspoken. She loves going to school and also participates in different activities.

How do you encourage her to study at home?

As mentioned above, I get limited time to be at home after my office. For that matter, it’s a ritual for me and my daughter to sit together every evening and do the homework as given. I don’t need to push her to study, she knows that it’s necessary. However, I assist her if something new has been taught in the class. While traveling to school, I encourage her to observe things around her and read the numbers on passing cars’ number plates, making learning a part of our daily journey.

Any technique which the school uses to evoke a good sense of learning among children?

Yes. The practical teaching is very amazing. Recently, they were taught a story about a mouse and a lion through pictorial representation. This practical approach helps students to grasp more efficiently.

What’s your parenting mantra?

To spend quality time, not quantity. It’s important to not just be around them but to help them feel that you are all ears when they are speaking. I make her understand that it is essential to be kind and generous around people irrespective of who that person is.
