“Learning gives creativity, and creativity leads to thinking and provides knowledge, knowledge makes you great.” This a very powerful quotation of Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam and he claims it quite often that learning comes easily by READING.

The importance of reading in general cannot be denied. If you are not a big fan of books, that is fine. You are not alone. Take your time to learn more about the importance of reading and its benefits for the individual and society in our lives and how you benefit from it.

Here are some of the most common advantages of reading:

Reading expands the mind

For starters, reading helps expand the mind and give more ideas, Reading has been shown to make young minds healthy. Certain studies have also shown that reading can help prevent Alzheimer’s disease.

A study closely examined 294 men who were in their late 80s and were given mentally stimulating tasks, including reading and writing, along with some tests annually, to track their progress.

After their death, autopsies showed that those who engaged in such activities had a slower rate of memory decline than those who did not read.

One of the many reasons why reading is so important to the individual and society in our lives is that it allows for creative thinking. Reading can inspire you when you are bored or frustrated. It can help give you that refreshment you need. Reading helps get the creative side of your mind into thinking while improving your focus.

3) Everyday reading helps improve your concentration, as it can train minds on how to focus properly, which is invaluable in everything we do in our daily lives and tasks.

It is something that shall take you from the “multitasking” mindset that is constantly present in our lives, to calmness and intense focus on one story or one thing, making you able to focus for longer periods than usual.

Another reason why reading is important is that it allows a greater perspective on the world and others. Reading can bring you out of closed bubbles, allowing you to see a different view of the world.

Reading is an opportunity to live the life of others without leaving your own area. It will transport your imagination to places you have not been before, and may not be there at all.

Reading can help you de-stress, as it is the perfect way to relax and calm those nerves that are constantly working.

A recent study found that just 6 minutes of reading was shown to reduce muscle tension and slow down the heart rate of readers as well as overall reduced stress levels by 68%, that’s enough to convince you of the importance of reading.

If you feel lonely, a book can be your best friend, although not in the most realistic scenario, but always the most comfortable and useful. Reading can truly provide a sense of belonging, giving a sense of hope in difficult times. To know about others who have also gone through difficult times and faced their challenges can be a real inspiration.

Not only is reading good for the soul and the mind, but it is also one of the many reasons why reading is important because it leads to a great conversation starter. It shall provide you with a great deal of new information, and it can connect people from all over the world.

No matter where two people may be, if they read the same book, it will always tie these two people together, perhaps helping you become good friends with someone from even some other continent.

Reading can help improve your vocabulary, enabling you to pronounce new words. People with high vocabulary are smarter and are often taken more seriously in the work environment. It opens up better career opportunities.
