Apeejay School, Panchsheel Park recently hosted an  enriching summer camp for students from nursery to class 8. The camp offered a plethora of activities aimed at nurturing their talents and skills while fostering creativity, communication, sportsmanship, and computer literacy. It provided a stimulating and unrestricted environment for young learners to explore their potential to the fullest while adding to their all-round development.

The camp saw enthusiastic participation from students across various age groups. Those inclined towards music and art engaged in activities aimed at honing their creative abilities. Meanwhile, communication skills were sharpened, sporting talents were nurtured, and computer knowledge was enhanced through a kaleidoscope of captivating activities.

Sports enthusiasts enrolled in the basketball programme were introduced to the significance of warm-ups, muscle stretching, and various techniques and rules of the game. Engrossed in the enjoyable sport, students experienced the thrill of playing basketball, developing self-confidence and a strong sense of teamwork.

The theatre activity, dedicated to drama, provided students with a platform to build confidence, trust their abilities, and explore their creativity. Engaging in role plays, mimicry, and nukkad natak, participants gained valuable insights into different dramatic forms and elements. This immersive experience not only improved their motor skills, but also enhanced their communication and writing abilities, as they chalked plots and crafted scripts based on real or imaginary situations.

Public speaking emerged as another popular activity, with many students enthusiastically working towards improving their communication skills wanting to overcome stage fear. Through interactive sessions, students were empowered to speak confidently, incorporating expressive gestures. They were equipped with effective tools such as voice modulation and body language to captivate their audience. Engaging in group discussions and subsequent presentations further enhanced their ability to articulate ideas and thoughts effectively.

Recognising the profound impact of music on early childhood development, the camp included a melodious music activity, nurturing the latent singing talents of young learners. Participants were also introduced to the serenity of meditation and the chanting of the Om mantra, promoting self-discipline. Pre-primary students joyfully embraced popular songs like “Machhali jal ki rani Hai” and “Nani, Nani,” while students of classes 3 to 8 delved into the captivating world of Indian Classical Music with Raag Bilawal. The camp also provided a platform for students to explore their affinity for playing musical instruments, fostering brain activity, focus, memory, cognitive flexibility, self-control, and time management.

Art & craft activities played a vital role in nurturing aesthetic values, fostering creative skills, and unleashing the artistic talents of students. Participants from classes 3 to 8 showcased their creativity by crafting beautiful and innovative pieces using paper folding, ice cream sticks, and papier-mâché techniques. These activities not only developed their fine motor skills and eye-hand coordination but also encouraged teamwork and social skills.

The summer camp also emphasised the importance of technology, as students participated in workshops on Canva and Scratch 1.4. Through these interactive sessions, students explored the world of design and coding, enhancing their skills and creativity. Leveraging Scratch, students programmed their own interactive stories, games, and animations, fostering problem-solving abilities, project design, and effective communication skills. The participants from classes 3 to 5 showed tremendous enthusiasm as they applied the concepts learned during the sessions to showcase their imaginative and creative abilities through designing and coding techniques.

Further, the dance activity aimed at nurturing freestyle dance forms proved to be a fun-loving program for boys and girls alike. Participants learned a special dance routine set to the mesmerising beats of the song “Bhumbro Bhumbro,” delighting in the joy of expression through dance.

The camp also encouraged resourcefulness and eco-consciousness through the “Best out of Waste” activity. Students from nursery to class 8 wholeheartedly participated, creating innovative and artistic items using recyclable materials such as newspapers, shoe boxes, bangles, and ice cream sticks. From these materials, they crafted an impressive array of display items, including tea coasters, pen stands, table mats, and foot mats. This activity not only sparked their creativity but also instilled a sense of responsibility towards the environment.

The success of the meticulously planned and well-executed summer camp can be attributed to the school’s mission of providing innovative instructional practices and fostering the overall development of its students.

While expressing her views, Drishti Dukhlan, a student of Class 8 A, said, “I would like to thank the school for organising such a fun-filled and educational summer camp. I thoroughly enjoyed the summer camp, and it provided me with a much-needed rejuvenation. I have learned a lot from the various activities, and my favourite activity was dramatics.”

Another student, Ayan Dhingra from Class 6, stated, “The art and craft as well as instrumental music activities in the summer camp were my favourites. I loved attending school for these enjoyable activities, and I especially enjoyed sharing food with my friends. I want to express my gratitude to the school for allowing me to participate in the summer camp.”
