Tell us about yourself.
I am deeply committed to becoming a doctor. Outside of my academic pursuits, I have a diverse range of interests that bring balance and joy to my life. I love dancing as well as painting.
What was your daily study routine like when you were preparing for a NEET?
My daily routine was very monotonous, as maintaining strict discipline was essential. On school days, I would leave home around 7 am, attend school until 2 pm, and head straight to study. After completing my studies for the necessary subjects, I used to study at night again in the same process. The preparation was incredibly challenging, and words cannot fully capture the difficulties I faced during this time but I think hard work paid off.
How did you balance your school studies along with NEET preparations?
Starting from class IX, I had to meticulously squeeze out time for studying. I would study whenever I had a free class at school, such as when a teacher was absent or during a library period. I never spent more than five minutes on lunch and even utilised my PT classes for studying. I would study at the reception while booking a cab home and continue studying during the cab ride. Managing time was incredibly challenging, and I had to make the most of every available moment.
For schoolwork and exams, I adopted a flexible approach. I would focus more on school exams when they were approaching, and shift my attention to NEET preparation when there were no school exams. The syllabus for both was essentially the same, although the approaches were different—subjective for the school and objective for NEET. This strategy helped me maintain a balance and achieve a score of 91% in my 12th CBSE results.
Any strategies you use to tackle difficult question sections?
I used to take two mock tests a day, which was incredibly beneficial. Mock tests played the greatest role in my preparation, helping me practice and refine my understanding continuously.
Key points every NEET aspirant should keep in their mind?
I strongly believe that each main subject — Physics, Chemistry, and Biology — requires a distinct approach. This is an often overlooked topic, but it’s crucial for effective preparation. Another key focus should be optimising your NCERT textbooks and notes for the final stages of preparation. Given the vast syllabus covered over two years, it’s impractical to revise everything in just ten or five days. I optimised my NCERT by consolidating all my notes, key points, and past 20 years’ questions within it. This strategy ensured I had a comprehensive, yet manageable, resource to review efficiently before exams.
Did your parents and your school teachers support you well?
Yes, my school supported me a lot, especially with my board exams. I think they did a really good job in helping me. I owe a lot of credit to my school teachers for their support and guidance.
Any tips or advice you would like to give to the students preparing for NEET?
One key aspect that’s often overlooked is the importance of approaching each subject differently and optimising resources like NCERT textbooks and notes. Additionally, utilising mock tests extensively can greatly enhance preparation by providing valuable practice and insight into exam patterns. These strategies, if implemented effectively, could change the game for NEET aspirants.
