Meet Molvika, a fabulous painter from Apeejay School International, Panchsheel Park.  At a very young age, she began her journey into art through a chance painting that turned into a sunset.

It was this sunset that became a sunrise in the little child’s painting career. One of the most promising painters in her school, she speaks to us in this week’s Aspiring Artist interview and shares her vision and definition of art.

Since when did you start drawing?

The oldest memory I have of making an artwork was an abstract artwork. I took my mom’s paints and threw them on the paper, making random shapes and lines and that resulted into a composition of a sunset at a worksite. This is how my journey began.

Which art form is your favourite and why?

Since the beginning I have experimented and explored a lot of art forms. My artworks have evolved from making 2-D artworks on canvases to a scroll, to installations, to making 3-D paper mache clay sculpture. Initially I started with abstract and now my artworks have inclined towards abstract realism.

That is wonderful to note. So, how does your school support you as an artist?

My school has supported me as an artist with great facilitators, who help me critically by analysing my ideas and giving me the room to express my ideas innovatively.

How would you define art?

For me art is a visual language through which I can communicate my artistic intentions, bringing my imagination to life and expressing my emotions with strokes and forms.

How much time does it take you to complete an artwork? What are your common ideas and themes?

Usually, it takes me about two weeks to a month, in which most of the time goes into planning the layout. Then with a clear image in mind, starting the artwork is easy and then creating it goes with the flow. My overarching ideas and themes for all of my artworks have been ‘expression and harmony’.

Upcoming artworks?

At the moment I am researching Mughal art style and incorporating the ideas and making layouts for a mural. The idea for the artwork is to get back to the roots and create a traditional Mughal art style.

One new artform you wish to learn?

New art form that I want to learn is to create a 3-dimensional artwork with ceramic. I have a desire to work with ceramic. Before this I attempted to throw a pot on the wheel but I couldn’t excel, and now I would challenge my abilities and work on creating art with ceramics.

Finally, other hobbies apart from art?

I like to engage myself in one thing or another. Besides art, my other hobbies are listening to music while taking nature walks. I like to indulge in travelling and exploring new areas to keep myself physically and mentally active and get ideas for new artworks.
