Apeejay Institute of Management & Engineering Technical Campus (AIMETC), Jalandhar, celebrated the festival of Lohri with great enthusiasm. It was celebrated at the campus where students and professors gathered around a bonfire and tossed sweets, peanuts, puffed rice, and popcorn in the flames.

People also sang traditional folk songs associated with Lohri.

Dr Rajesh Bagga, director, AIMETC, extended greetings to everyone on the auspicious occasion and talked about how the festival celebrates youth and vigour. He motivated students to be imbued with the spirit of exuberance and joy in their lives.

The professors and hostel residents offered prayers and chanted hymns. Sweets and dry fruits were distributed among everyone present on the occasion.

Meanwhile, Apeejay College of Fine Arts (ACFA) also celebrated Lohri with great pomp. On the occasion, Dr Neerja Dhingra, principal, ACFA, spoke about the importance of the festival while highlighting the cultural diversity of the country.

The faculty enjoyed the festival to the fullest by grooving to the beat of the drums. Dr Dhingra congratulated the staff and wished them a healthy and prosperous life.

She also appreciated the efforts of Dr Jagmohan Mago, dean, Student Welfare Association, for successfully organising the celebrations.

A winter folk festival, Lohri is celebrated primarily in North India. It is believed that the festival marks the passing of the winter solstice and therefore the end of winter. It marks a traditional welcome of longer days and the sun’s journey to the northern hemisphere. It also heralds the beginning of the harvest season.

The festival is celebrated by lighting bonfires, eating festive foods, singing, dancing, and exchanging gifts.
