The celebration of Teacher’s Day at Apeejay School International (ASI), Panchsheek Park, Delhi on September 4, 2023 was a captivating journey back in time, adorned with the charming allure of Retro Bollywood. The event was a spectacular triumph, seamlessly interweaving nostalgia, harmonious melodies, and profound appreciation for the dedicated educators who shape young minds.

The festivities began with a heartfelt felicitation of the Principal, Mr Purshottam Dutt Vashist, whose eloquent address set the perfect tone for the day. He underscored the indispensable role teachers play in sculpting the intellectual landscape of our future leaders.

In a gesture of profound gratitude, the guiding stars of the school and the revered teachers were presented with exquisite mementoes. Each of these tokens of admiration bore personalised messages from the students, leaving everyone present teary-eyed, awash with feelings of genuine appreciation.

The students, true to their commitment to excellence, had also meticulously prepared a series of captivating performances. The programme was set alight with a soul-stirring choir performance, followed by captivating dance medleys choreographed to the timeless tunes of the black-and-white film era, as well as unforgettable numbers from iconic Amitabh Bachchan movies. These performances skillfully transported the audience to the golden era of Indian cinema, evoking a sense of shared cultural nostalgia.

A standout moment was an uproarious parody skit set in an International Baccalaureate (IB) classroom, vividly capturing the essence of the Sholay era. The ingenious script and impeccable acting had the audience convulsing with laughter, a testament to the universal appeal of humor that transcends generations.

The event culminated with an awe-inspiring display of unity and affection, as students joined hands, swaying and singing in unison to the timeless classic, ‘Ek Doosre Se Karte Hain Pyaar Hum’ from the iconic movie Hum. This touching tribute left the teachers not only feeling cherished, but also deeply valued, reaffirming the inseparable bond between educators and their pupils.

The day stood as a living testament to the love and respect that students hold for their teachers, transforming it into an indelible memory for all fortunate enough to be a part of it. The celebration served as a poignant reminder of the profound influence that teachers have on the lives of their students, shaping them into the leaders of tomorrow.

On 5 September, 2023, another celebration based on Teacher’s Day at the school transcended the ordinary, offering a splendid and exclusive affair for cherished educators. Bedecked in resplendent Retro Bollywood ensembles, teachers took center stage as the true luminaries. The festivities unfurled with an exquisite cake-cutting ceremony, graced by the distinguished presence of the Principal. This sweet inception heralded an evening of boundless mirth and camaraderie, setting the perfect stage for an unforgettable celebration.

A spirited Retro Bollywood movie quiz was a delightful challenge that put educators’ cinematic knowledge to the test. Witnessing the revered mentors relive their fondest celluloid memories was heartening. The game of musical chairs, a spirited contest that kept teachers on their toes, was brimming with laughter and good-natured competition. It was a beautiful demonstration to the eternal youthful spirit that animates the educators of ASI.

The talents of teachers were highlighted with an enthralling talent show. From soul-stirring vocal performances to graceful dance displays, the educators dazzled the audience with their hidden artistic prowess. A skit performed by the dynamic duo, Ms Kairvee and Ms Nirmala, inspired by a vintage love story from Indian cinema, had the audience in uproarious stitches. Their comic timing showcased the depth of their artistry, proving that they are masters not only of knowledge but also of humour, ultimately winning the hearts of all present.

Next, a mesmerising jugalbandi of guitar and tabla performed by the virtuosos, Mr Chumbemo, the music facilitator, and Mr Sanu, the English facilitator, transported the audience into a realm of musical enchantment. The pinnacle of the programme was undoubtedly the ‘Best Dressed’ competition. Teachers sauntered down the ramp with an unparalleled blend of style and grace, bringing iconic Retro Bollywood characters vividly to life. The judges faced a daunting task in selecting the winners from this sea of talent and creativity. In the end, the honours were bestowed upon Ms Nirmala, Ms Kanika, and Dr Anjali, who truly embodied the essence of their chosen characters.

The events in the school provided a richly deserved tribute to the hardworking teachers. Bedecked in their Retro Bollywood personas, the teachers showcased not only their prowess as academic mentors but also their vibrant talents as performers. The celebrations left indelible imprints of cherished memories in the hearts of all.
