Welcoming of the guests

Day 2 of the Annual Appreciation Day at Apeejay School, Saket served as the culmination of a year-long journey. The function was not just a testament to the narrative of stories but a day to recognise the academic accomplishment of the students, reflecting the holistic growth and development fostered within the school’s four walls.

The audience, comprised esteemed guests, parents, and peers immersed themselves in the vibrant aura of the literary tapestry on November 26 — Adabiyyat based on profound books and literature, is a rich tapestry where each story represents its unique perspective in a captivating narrative.

The chief guest for the second day was Shri Kartar Singh Tanwar, MLA of New Delhi. Adding to the splendor of the event, the gathering also saw the likes of Shammi Narang, the legendary TV personality who is also known as the ‘man behind the metro voice’. The other esteemed guests who graced the occasion were Shri Shankar Sahney, a legend of the music industry, Shri Rajiv Chaudhary, Councillor, Mrs Ranjana Prasad, member, Delhi Commission for Protection of Child Rights), and Mr Umed Phogat, Municipal Councilor, Aam Aadmi Party.

The lighting of the lamp ceremony

The guests were greeted with a traditional tilak ceremony and were given potted plants as a symbol of ‘green welcome’. The event commenced with the lighting of a ceremonial lamp by the dignitaries and Dr Sujeet Eric Masih, principal, Apeejay School, Saket. This was followed by Ganesh Vandana casting a spell of tranquility that set the tone for the evening.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, the chief guest, Shri Kartar Singh Tanwar, could not attend the event. On his behalf, special invitee Mr Umed Phogat congratulated students and other participants and said, “The programme was excellent. I want to acknowledge the beautiful rendition of the Ganesh Vandana. I thoroughly enjoyed it, and I’d like to express my eagerness to be invited to future events. Kindly extend the invitation for next year as I genuinely loved the experience. ‘I eagerly anticipate events hosted at Apeejay School as they are truly fantastic and mesmerising’ says, Mr Phogat.

Taking the stage Shri Shammi Narang said: “Mahobbat ke liye kuch khas dil makhsoos hote hai, yeh woh nagma hai jo har saaz par gaaya nahi jaata’. Bilkul issi tarah aane wale kal ki dekhbhaal karne ke liye aur usko ujjwal banane ke liye, kuch khas logo ki punji hoti hai. Yeh woh log hote hai jin ke mann mein toofan sa machalta rehta hai aane wale kal ki uddhnan ke liye aur in logo se ek sanstha ka janam hua jisse hum – Apeejay Education kehete hain.”

Orchestra performance

“As I listened to the annual report and saw the beautiful performance, I realised that strength is not always teaching, but the emphasis should be on learning because it is distinct. A well-known poet once said ‘inn nanhe munne haatho ko chaand sitaare choone do. Do chaar kitaabe padh kar ye bhi humare jaise hojayenge’,” Narang said.

He used his metro voice and said: “Apeejay metro yaatra mein aapka swagat hai. Agla station aapki mann chaahi manzil hai. Khushyali ki darwaze chaaro oar khulenge, aap jab chaahe chadh jaaye ya utar jaayein” which entertained everyone present and touched the hearts of the Apeejay family.

Speaking at the function, Shri Shankar Sahney said that he has been a guest at several school functions but the performance shown by the students of Apeejay is unparalleled. “People often say the success is due to the hard work. I believe it is 30 percent hard work that can only work in your favour if luck is on your side, 99 percent is destiny,” Sahney shared.

Taking a cue from Sahney, Shri Rajiv Chaudhary said that sometimes, we think that when life gives us a chance, we’ll grab it, but the truth is, the success rate is higher for those who prepare in advance and seize the opportunity when it comes.

“I request all the parents and guardians to not only focus on academic preparation but also prepare them to become responsible citizens since the world is very competitive. While the school is doing its part, it’s equally important for parents to contribute and nurture their kids so that they become good citizens. Sometimes, people lose in the race of life because they aren’t well-prepared for the challenges ahead. We must ensure that education is a priority, but supporting our kids in other activities, and giving them the freedom to pursue their passions is also important,” Chaudhary opined.

Ms Ranjana Prasad

Ms Ranjana Prasad commended Apeejay school for its exceptional approach to education, highlighting its distinctive emphasis on India’s rich culture and sanskriti in her speech. She praised the institute for achieving a harmonious balance between tradition and modernisation, a rarity in today’s educational landscape. She also lauded the school’s principal for his approachability and inclusive leadership, emphasizing the importance of maintaining open communication channels among parents, teachers, and students.

“Apeejay School’s primary school Annual Appreciation Day not only recognised the achievements of young learners but also showcased the school’s commitment to providing a well-rounded education,” added Ms Prasad.

Her presence added a significant touch of distinction to the event, underlining the school’s dedication to fostering a learning environment that values both cultural heritage and contemporary educational practices.

And this translated on the stage. The event showcased a vibrant theme that seamlessly blended distinctive dance and play performances with the rich tapestry of Indian literature. The invocation dance set the tone for the programme, elegantly combining music and dance. The performers, donned in black and white indo-western costumes, showcased their artistry by skillfully incorporating books as props, capturing the true essence of Indian literature. Performance: A Tribute to The Bhagvad Gita

The stage was elevated by visually appealing elements displayed on the background screen, adding an extra dimension to the show. The girls, impeccably attired, continued to exhibit excellent coordination throughout their performance. As the programme progressed into regional literature, the focus shifted to portraying the authentic spirit of Bengal. The lead performer, dressed in traditional red and white Bengali attire, spoke in the native language, reinforcing the theme of Aasha ki Duniya (the world of hope).

The excerpts presented encapsulated the essence of renowned authors, from Amar Chitra Katha to MK Gandhi, delving into the stories of King Ashok, and White Tiger as well. The centerpiece of the performance was Rabindranath Tagore’s Postmaster, exploring themes of love, yearning, and the harsh realities of life. Despite its brevity, the play remained thoroughly engaging, resonating with the overarching theme of a journey through time and emphasizing the significant contributions of Indian authors to the nation.

The spotlight then shifted to the renowned Amar Chitra Katha, with a particular focus on the captivating story of Great Ashok and the sage advice of Birbal. This was followed by teachings from The Bhagvad. The act concluded with a captivating dance featuring young girls wielding bow and arrow props, dressed in striking red attire.

Sneak-peek from the story of M.K Gandhi

A special performance of Krishna-Radha was depicted by two young girls and a troupe of 12-plus participants dressed as gopiya in lehenga-choli. Insights into Mahatma Gandhi’s stories underscored his significant contributions to the nation. The storytelling had a soft and lighthearted tonality, enhanced by background music that added a surreal touch.

In a patriotic display, girls dressed in white and orange, symbolising the colours of the National Flag, radiated a sense of patriotism while dancing to the tunes of seamlessly choreographed Bande Mein Tha Dum..Vande Matram. The entire event was a captivating journey through the realms of literature, seamlessly weaving together storytelling, dance, and a celebration of India’s cultural richness.

The grand finale featured all the students converging on stage, executing a meticulous dance to the song ‘Hum Apeejay ke Bache‘. The show reached its zenith when all the teachers joined the stage, instilling a vibrant and energetic conclusion.

The vote of thanks was expressed as a gratitude to all. Dr Masih took the stage and thanked the three pillars – Mrs Seema, Mrs Savita, and Mrs Ritesh – who ensured that the function was a success. Mrs. Ritesh then went on to thank all the dignitaries present for their support and presence. “I thank Dr Masih for his constant guidance and mentorship without which it would not have been possible to put up this show,” Mrs Ritesh concluded.
