The Hindi language, with its mellifluous cadence and deep-rooted cultural significance, transcends national borders to resonate on a global scale. As one of the most widely spoken languages in the world – with over 615 million speakers – it serves as a vital bridge, connecting over half a billion speakers across India and beyond. Beyond its linguistic prowess, Hindi is an ambassador of India’s rich cultural heritage, carrying with it centuries of tradition, literature, and artistic expression.
In an era of increasing globalisation, proficiency in Hindi opens doors to a myriad of opportunities, be it in trade, diplomacy, or cultural exchange. As India’s influence on the world stage continues to grow, so does the importance of Hindi as a key player in the global linguistic tapestry. Its significance is not confined to geographical boundaries; it is a vibrant testament to the enduring power of language to unite, inspire, and enrich lives worldwide.
In a fervent acknowledgement of its ever-increasing significance and cultural resonance across India, Apeejay School International (ASI), Panchsheel Park recently observed Hindi Divas, an occasion that underscored the profound importance of the Hindi language in the tapestry of Indian identity.
The event was graced by the distinguished presence of Mr Soumitra Budhkar, a luminary in the field of journalism and a stalwart anchor of the esteemed Hindi news channel, CNBC Awaz. Mr Budhkar, also at the helm of ET Now Swadesh, lent an aura of prestige and grandeur to the proceedings. His insightful discourse traced the evolutionary trajectory and contemporary usage of Hindi, punctuating his narrative with poignant excerpts from prominent newspapers.

A diverse assemblage of students from various classes lent an air of festivity with a cultural extravaganza, artfully showcasing the rich mosaic of Hindi’s heritage. Through a symphony of Hindi songs, dances, and skits, they unveiled the language’s vibrant tapestry, encapsulating its myriad hues and intricacies. A particularly poignant Nukkad Natak unfolded, casting a spotlight on the present plight of Hindi. This evocative performance served as a clarion call for the imperative of preserving this linguistic treasure, offering cogent reasons for its safeguarding.
Senior students lent gravitas with impassioned speeches, articulating the historical sanctity of Hindi and its pivotal role in preserving our cultural moorings. They eloquently expounded on how Hindi stands as a unifying force, binding our diverse nation in a common linguistic thread. The poetic cadence of Hindi verse reverberated through the hall as students showcased their linguistic prowess, leaving the audience spellbound with their eloquence.
Mr Budhkar’s discourse unveiled a broader vista – the burgeoning global footprint of Hindi and the cornucopia of opportunities it unfurls for careers and professional success. His insights resonated with the audience, painting a compelling vision of a world where proficiency in Hindi is not merely a linguistic asset but a gateway to a wider spectrum of possibilities.

The resounding success of the Hindi Divas celebration resounded like a clarion call, affirming Hindi as a binding force in the variegated fabric of our nation. Mr Budhkar’s august presence and sagacious words etched an indelible mark, motivating one and all to not only treasure but also fervently promote Hindi in an era marked by linguistic diversity. The event served as a poignant reminder of the imperative to safeguard and pass on the legacy of Hindi to the generations that follow.
The celebration of Hindi Divas transcended mere festivity; it was a reaffirmation of the profound significance of language as a cornerstone of cultural identity. It underscored the vital role that linguistic diversity plays in the holistic development of individuals, particularly in the dynamic global landscape of the 21st century.
In line with this, the International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum championed by ASI stands as a beacon, cultivating not just students, but lifelong learners. It places a premium on linguistic proficiency, recognising it as an invaluable asset in an interconnected world. By imparting a holistic education that embraces linguistic diversity, the IB curriculum equips students with the tools to excel not only academically but also as global citizens.
The celebration of Hindi Divas was more than a tribute to a vibrant and rich language; it was a rallying cry to safeguard and propagate the legacy of Hindi for posterity. It reaffirmed the timeless truth that languages are not just mediums of communication, but the very essence of our cultural soul. —
