It is rightly believed that a parent is a teacher at home and a teacher is a parent in the school. At the same time, a child remains the centre of their universe forever.

Thus, starting a new academic journey together, Apeejay International School in Greater Noida recently organised an orientation programme for the new set of parents to familiarise them with the curriculum, rules and regulations, teaching methodologies, scholastic and the co-scholastic activities of the school. The big day was graced by Ms Anusha Tyagi, CID-UNESCO certified Expressive Art-based therapist, who believes that creating art has inherent healing powers.

To mark the beginning of the programme, she lit the ceremonial lamp with the Principal of the school, Dr Sarita Pande. Soon after, students showcased a Ganesh Vandana to invoke the blessings of the Lord.

After welcoming the parents to the new session of the school, Dr Pande outlined a brief description of the school, which included the motto, vision, mission, history and reputation of Apeejay Education along with the recent achievements of the institution. Further, she shared the benefits of effective communication between parents and teachers. She also highlighted the achievements of the students and reiterated the importance of working in collaboration to ensure discipline among students. After this, she mentioned how a child must be nurtured with love and care to build a strong foundation for his/her glorious future.

This was followed by a presentation on the National Education Policy 2020 by the Pre-Primary coordinator of the school, Ms Charu. She shared about the thematic and experiential learning imparted to the pre-primary learners in the school. Then Ms Jasjit Kaur highlighted the policies of primary and middle wing followed by Ms Maninder Kaur who gave a brief description about the senior and the senior-secondary wing. All the parents were briefed about stream selection at senior secondary level. Not to forget, the co-scholastic activities which were discussed at length to give them an idea of the school’s practices and educational model. “Self-directed learning with hands-on activities that not only give students a medium to fully utilise their creative talents and energies but also help them in their all-round development, is the focus of Apeejay,” said Ms Maninder Kaur.

Further, Mr Amit Kumar and Mr Chandra Prakash Shukla from Valedra Education, a platform for value-added education opportunities, gave an overview of the Sports Guru programme run successfully in the school’s campus. Parents were demonstrated how sports-based activities are conducted by them.

Ms Anusha Tyagi, the counsellor of the school, presented a comprehensive presentation on parenting and the common mistakes being committed by a parent of today’s generation. In addition to this, she shared tips on ways to handle a child. She focussed on a sound mental health of both the parents and the students and delivered an interactive session.

Shortly, the school’s song depicting the motto “Soaring High is my Nature” was sung by the school choir. It motivated each one to reach new heights as the sky’s the limit. A couplet by the late Founder-Chairman of Apeejay Education, Dr Stya Paul illustrating that every child is unique was shared and appreciated by the parents:

“You are a falcon, soaring high is your nature.

There are skies, yet for you to conquer.”

Lastly, Dr Pande introduced the school staff and apprised the parents about the new teachers who have become part of the Apeejay family.  The concluded with the sumptuous lunch arranged by the school for parents and teachers.

Overall, the orientation programme proved to be a success in educating parents to guide their children in a suitable manner. It helped in evolving common teaching strategies and allowed them to identify appropriate methods to reinforce the learning process of their ward(s).
