Experts discuss role of research in shaping the academic landscape 

Conducting research is vital for MBA students as it sharpens analytical skills and fosters a deeper understanding of business concepts. It enables them to solve real-world problems, make data-driven decisions, and innovate in a competitive environment. Research builds critical thinking, enhances strategic planning abilities, and equips students to address industry challenges effectively. By engaging in research, MBA students develop valuable insights, contributing to academic growth and professional excellence.

Apeejay School of Management (ASM) , Dwarka recently had the pleasure of hosting Professor, D.K Malhotra, Professor of Finance, Nydick Family Term Chair & Director, MBA Program. The expert addressed the faculty members and spoke elaborately on the significance of research in academics.

He initiated the discussion by sharing his journey in the field of research which started with few initial rejections, to the current strong repository of publications across more than 160 research articles in journals such as European Journal of Operational Research, Omega—the International Journal of Management Science, Journal of Financial Research, Financial Review to name a few. In words of Dr. Rahul Singh, Director, mentioned, “Value add sessions by international experts for faculty and students is a best practice to enrich global learning. Going forward, ASM will endeavour to conduct several such engagements with experts from different domains.”

The session on the importance of research in academics, aimed to highlight the pivotal role research plays in shaping the academic landscape. Dr. Malhotra shared valuable insights on how research not only contributes to knowledge generation but also enhances critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and the overall learning experience in academic settings. He emphasised on the importance of collaboration in research and motivated the faculty to do research to contribute to knowledge building and knowledge sharing.

Prof. Nupur Soti, Assistant Professor (Finance) shared that session by Prof. DK Malhotra was truly inspiring as he shared invaluable lessons from his professional journey, emphasising the importance of team building and persistence in the face of challenges. “His vast research experience further highlighted his dedication to knowledge and excellence, leaving a lasting impression on how perseverance and collaboration leads to success.”

The session was informative, thought-provoking, and motivational, providing all faculty members with the encouragement to engage in research more deeply. The event was facilitated by Dr. Ishita Adhikari, Associate Professor, (Human Resources), ASM.
