With the financial year coming to an end, all citizens held their breath in anticipation when the Finance Minister announced the new budget. TV channels debate week after week, analysing every aspect of the same, and the discussions abound in every corner of the nation.  Apeejay College of Fine Arts, Jalandhar, has always strived to keep their students upto date about the happenings of the nation. In sync with this vision, the Post-Graduate wing in the Department of Commerce conducted an interesting ‘Budget Pe Charcha’ discussion session in the campus during which professors and students analysed every detail in depth.

Principal of college Dr Neerja Dhingra expressed her views stating, “Such programmes boost the confidence of the students and also provide clarity to their outlook on the current economic situation.” On the current budget, she mentioned, “This budget shows the possibility of educational reform as the National Digital Library is being established, which every Indian wishing to gain knowledge will be able to use. Also, the capex has been increased and this is very important because unless emphasis is laid on the improvement of infrastructure, the rate of development will also remain slow.” She further added that the budget showcases many options to increase the rate of employability, promotes startups, supports the development of micro, small and medium enterprises as well as the establishment of thirty new skill development centres.

Further, Dr Payal Arora from the Department of Commerce enlightened the students on the history of the budget. It was followed by students presenting a wonderful choreography on ‘Effects of budget on different sectors of economy’ under the direction of Professor Garima Arora.

Kashish, a first year student pursuing Masters in Commerce, presented the budget while enacting the role of Nirmala Sitharaman. Her performance was highly applauded by all in the audience. Within the aegis of the discussion, students also presented their views on other important topics like agriculture, tax regime, education, entertainment, digital index and capex.
