The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has slated the Physical Education exam for March 12, 2024. Students must have already completed their initial round of prep for the exam. However, studying different topics needs to be complemented by solving several question papers to ensure one is exam-ready.

To make it easier for students, Ashok Kumar, a Physical Education (PE) teacher at Apeejay School, Charkhi Dadri, shared some important tips not just for what to do a day before the exam but also how to attempt the question paper on the final day of the exam.

“One common misconception that students have about PE is that it is an easy exam. But this is not the case. This subject is an amalgamation of Physics, Math, Mechanics, and even Biology. Students should know these subjects to score well. Another important aspect to keep in mind is that without studying for this subject, a student can’t score good marks,” Kumar stressed and shared tips on what to do a day before the exam.

·         If a student has a PE exam tomorrow, they should summarise all units and focus mainly on the key headings the day before. It’s essential to have organised notes for revision.

·         Students should go through the notes that they have made or the notes that have been given by their respective teachers.

·         Sleeping late and getting up groggy on the day of the exam is a no-no.

“The PE paper, like other subjects, contains 70 marks. This year’s exam comprises 34 questions divided into 5 sections, including multiple-choice questions.  Adherence to word limits for answers is necessary: 60-90 words for 2-mark questions, 102-150 words for 3-mark questions, and up to 250 words for longer questions,” Kumar shared.

How to attempt the question paper?

·         On the day of the exam, managing time effectively is crucial to attempt all questions.

“Besides time management and thoroughly reading the question paper in the 15 minutes that are given to them. Students should bring their watch, admit card, student ID, and writing materials. It’s also important to have an eraser and pencil sharpener for diagram questions, such as those related to yoga,” Kumar advised.

·         Diagrams play a significant role in the exam, with potential questions on yoga, kinesiology, and biomechanics, including planes, axes, levers, and biological systems like the circulatory and respiratory systems.

·         Understanding fixtures, like those in the World Cup or IPL, is crucial. Students must be able to draw these fixtures accurately, indicating matches between teams, dates, and locations.

·         Bring your pencils, eraser, and sharpener. These come in handy when you have to draw diagrams and attempt fixture questions.

·         It is important to stick to the word limit; this will ensure that the students have ample time to revise.

·         Students should be well-versed with the question paper pattern.

·         Ensure that you attempt the question paper section-wise.

·         Write the answers in neat and legible handwriting.

Last-minute dos and don’ts

1. Read the question paper thoroughly and attempt the questions as per the statements.

2. Write a complete answer with an option in MCQs.

3. Attempt all questions in serial order and leave one line after every question.

4. Attempt only asked questions and underline the main points with a black sketch pen.

5. Don’t attempt extra questions. It will be a waste of time.

6. Draw the diagrams with a pencil. There should be a good presentation and layout of the answer book.

7. Explain all questions in the required word limit. Extend your words with appropriate examples of sports.

8. Long answers questions should not be less than 300 words.

9. Revise your answers in the last 10 minutes.
