Budding media professionals celebrate Doordarshan Day 

Journalism students of Apeejay College of Fine Arts in Jalandhar mark this day with great fervour

Apeejay College of Fine Arts (ACFA), Jalandhar, marked the 64th ‘Doordarshan Day’ with great enthusiasm and fervour. The Department of Journalism and Mass Communication organised a series of engaging activities to commemorate this special occasion. Students from various departments of the college participated wholeheartedly in activities such as News Reading in Hindi and English, a Quiz, Ad Mad Show, and Personality Reflection.

Dr Neeraj Dhingra, Principal of ACFA, expressed her thoughts on the significance of Doordarshan Day. She recalled a time when Doordarshan was the primary source of television entertainment, creating a sense of unity as everyone tuned in to watch the same channel.

Dr Dhingra further highlighted the art of effective news presentation by newsreaders of that era who used well-placed pauses to engage the audience.

In the Hindi news reading competition, Vishal, a 3rd-semester BAJMC student, secured the first prize, while Pearl Kakadiya, also a 3rd-semester BAJMC student, earned the second prize. Rishta Upadhyay, another talented student in the 3rd semester of BAJMC, clinched the third prize, and Stuti, displaying dedication, received a well-deserved consolation prize.

In the English news reading competition, Pearl Kakria, a 3rd-semester BAJMC student, took the lead, with Rishta Upadhyay securing second place. Nanina Jaggi, a student in BAJMC, and Ritika, equally skilled, jointly secured third place. Aarushi Kashyap, an aspiring student in the 1st semester of BAJMC, and Kritina, equally dedicated, were awarded the consolation prize for their efforts.

The quiz competition was fiercely competitive, with Urvi, Ritika, Shreya, and Kavya, all BBA students in the 3rd semester, emerging victorious.

In the personality reflection competition, Shivam Sharma, a 1st-semester BAJMC student, captivated the audience with his portrayal of Mashoor Gulati. Keshav Arora, a 5th-semester B.COM student, was awarded the second prize for his enactment of Jetha Lal Garha, and Nandini Singh, an aspiring student in the 3rd semester of BAJMC, stood third for her compelling portrayal of Sansani Fame Shri Vardhan Trivedi.

The Ad Mad Show winners included Angel, Rajat, Keshav, and Vishal, securing the first prize, while Moksh, Ansh, Nandini, and Shivam, all BAJMC students in the 3rd semester, impressed with their innovative presentations, earning the second prize.

In the end, Dr Dhingra congratulated all the winners and presented them with certificates in recognition of their remarkable talents and efforts. The celebration of Doordarshan Day not only paid tribute to the nostalgia associated with the iconic broadcasting channel but also highlighted the emerging talent in the field of journalism and mass communication among the students.
