Reaffirming its commitment to preserving the nation’s rich legacy of courage and sacrifice, Apeejay Stya University (ASU), Sohna, commemorated Kargil Vijay Diwas, with a special programme. The Apeejay members paid tribute to the valour of the Indian Armed Forces and honoured the heroes of the 1999 Kargil War.
Held in the University’s Committee Room, the commemorative event brought together Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Vijay Vir Singh, Registrar Dr. Pradeep Kumar, Deans, faculty members, and staff, who gathered to remember the unwavering courage, patriotism, and supreme sacrifices made by the nation’s soldiers in safeguarding India’s sovereignty.

The programme commenced with a welcome address highlighting the historical significance of Kargil Vijay Diwas, observed annually to mark India’s victory in the Kargil War. The address underscored the importance of remembering the bravery of the armed forces and inspiring future generations to uphold the values of dedication, service, and national pride.
The highlight of the event was a thought-provoking special talk titled “Kargil Vijay Diwas: A Journalist’s Perspective from the Battlefield,” delivered by Prof. Sanjay Ahirwal, Dean, School of Journalism & Mass Communication. Drawing from his personal experiences covering the conflict, Prof. Ahirwal offered the audience a rare and deeply moving account of life on the frontlines during the Kargil War.
Making the session particularly engaging, he shared a collection of rare photographs and videos captured during the conflict, providing participants with a vivid glimpse into the realities of war reporting. Through his first-hand reflections from the battlefield, he recounted the challenges faced by journalists covering one of India’s most significant military operations, while highlighting the extraordinary courage, resilience, and determination displayed by the soldiers defending the nation’s borders under extremely difficult conditions.

His compelling narrative offered a unique perspective on the conflict, reminding the audience of the critical role journalists play in documenting history while bringing stories of heroism and sacrifice to the nation.
The programme was seamlessly anchored by Dr. Manju Rani from the School of Behavioural Sciences, who guided the proceedings with warmth and dignity, ensuring a reflective and meaningful atmosphere throughout the event.
The commemorative programme concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Vijay Kumar, Head, School of Education, who expressed gratitude to the distinguished speaker, university leadership, faculty members, and staff for their enthusiastic participation. He also reiterated the importance of remembering the sacrifices of India’s brave soldiers and nurturing a spirit of patriotism among future generations.

The event culminated with the singing of the National Anthem, filling the gathering with a profound sense of pride, unity, and gratitude. The observance of Kargil Vijay Diwas once again reflected Apeejay Stya University’s commitment to honouring the nation’s heroes while fostering values of patriotism, service, and national responsibility within the academic community.
