‘An Eclipse Is A Guilty Occurrence (Icarus And The Sun)’: Poem by Aditi Kashyap, ACFA

Did he not warn you that a flight too high

 Meant most definitely a fall?

Or were you, little one, just wondering

If falling and flying felt any different at all?

Pick a God and pray to it, child!

Have my word, your wings won’t melt.

Be cautious; Be scared but do fly!

I promise my heat won’t trace your stealth.

For when you near me this time

It is Selene whom you will touch

The mortals will call it an eclipse

As your lovely wings she will clutch.

Devoured by the sea and spit out reborn.

Speak, weeping child, you must tell me!

Your flight from prison and your fall to death,

Was it hubris or infantile curiosity?

No, It wasn’t hubris, nor disobedience or curiosity

My prison cell, the labyrinth, was cold

Hence, sunlight consumed my sleep and wake

Unbeknownst to me was my fall.
