Will Artificial Intelligence (AI) truly enhance the teaching-learning experience for teachers and students alike? Can this technology be effectively adopted in the field of education? Well, AI-powered solutions are emerging as a powerful tool in facilitating education effectively. Therefore, the global shift to AI will certainly revolutionize the education system, thereby transforming the teaching-learning methods in schools as well as higher education institutes.

Realizing the same and in order to train the educators of Apeejay Stya & Svrán Group, Mr Aditya Berlia, Co-Promoter Apeejay Stya and Svran Group and Co-Founder and Pro-Chancellor of Apeejay Stya University, conducted a workshop themed on, ‘Artificial Intelligence Conclave 2023 – Leveraging AI to drive innovation and transformation.’

Mrs Sushma Paul Berlia, Chairperson of Apeejay Stya and Svran Group, Chairperson, Apeejay Education, and Chancellor Apeejay Stya University, graced the occasion with her presence. The hall was bustling with enthusiasm as Education officers, Principals, Heads, Directors, educators, and coordinators of Apeejay schools and higher education institutes met and greeted each other ahead of the session.

The power-packed session began with Mrs Sushma Paul Berlia addressing the educators. She said, “I see this as the start of a new era. Some of you have witnessed the IT revolution and that itself was a revolutionary change. I see this too as a new beginning for the organization. We are participating at a very historical moment and I call it a “Tryst with Destiny”. AI will drive transformation, the time is to take the lead.”

Introducing Apeejay educators with the Group’s vision to soon launch Chat Bot UI – powered by Chat GPT 4, AI-based apps along with setting up AI Labs in its educational institutions, Mr Aditya Berlia initiated the discourse coupled with hands-on training. He mentioned that to get the best results from ChatGPT, it is crucial to be aware of the prompt’s text length limit.

Further, he trained the audience on how to write a prompt for ChatGPT while keeping a few points in mind such as: importance of entering a persona like “you are a 20 years experienced financial analyst” , usage of words like comprehensive, detailed in the prompt text, need to set the right tonality, how to play with data. Mr Aditya Berlia also emphasized to remember, “Chat GPT is not a search engine. It’s a tool.”

Enthusiastically engaging in the AI session, the educators promptly identified a couple of key challenges that could be posed by completely integrating AI into the teaching-learning process.

The first challenge pointed out that students have already started using Chat GPT but there is no “AI detector” to identify if students have completed the given assignment by themselves or have used ChatGPT. To this, Mr Aditya Berlia suggested that educators should not discourage students from using AI or emerging technologies. The solution would be to conduct more and more viva and one-on-one interaction with students. “A combination of handwritten assignments along with printed ones could be incorporated,” he suggested.

Further, Mr Aditya Berlia led the audience to think: In a virtual blended classroom, how would a management or a fashion design class look like with AI? The role of the educators would be to guide students to how to write the correct prompt to get the right answer. “We have to train the students, give them the right AI tools.”

The next challenge identified was how to ensure that students would use these technologies ethically. Mr Aditya Berlia mentioned that a system would be put in place and the guard rails would be raised.

Subsequently, Mr Aditya Berlia highlighted that our goal is to revamp the curriculum while identifying some of the things which need to be done immediately. He asked the educators in the audience to brainstorm on how Apeejay can create an adaptive curriculum that needs to be updated every year. He also stressed on the importance of the evaluation system.

The day-long AI session left a lasting imprint on the audience. It concluded with Mrs Sushma Paul Berlia sharing, “As I call it a “Tryst with Destiny”, AI will lead a transformation and change our destiny. This is just the beginning.”
