‘A poem for her’: Poem by Saima Bhalla, Apeejay School, Panchsheel Park

She was the poem I always wanted to be written
She is messy but she knows how to love
Love in ways others find insane
She knows what it is to selflessly give away all she has
But she wishes someone to love her too
Take care of her the way she do
Maybe all she wants is to be appreciated
And not made to feel less
Maybe she wants to know she is enough
And I want a poem to be written just for her
One that narrates her tears
Without making them feel like sins
One that tells her she is not who the old poets wrote about
The one they define as beautiful
The one with rosy cheeks on a pretty white face
But she is beautiful in ways they never knew
She is a sun on a cold winters day
She gives you warmth
Even if it means her burning in flames
And I want a poem written just for her.
