The Interact Club of Apeejay Svran Global School, Faridabad, Sector 21-D, in association with Heart & Lung Centre recently organised a free health check-up camp along with an asthma awareness session. The event aimed at providing essential medical guidance knowledge and services to the students, parents, and staff of the school.

Dr. Meenu Pandit, a well-renowned pulmonologist, volunteered to help the school accomplish the aim. A free health checkup and medical consultation was available for all members of the Apeejay community. The camp created much awareness about asthma, its triggers, symptoms, and management strategies and also encouraged early detection and preventive measures.

Local healthcare professionals, including doctors, nurses, and pharmacists were present to provide their expertise and services as well. Various health check-up stations were set up in the school to cater to the diverse needs of the attendees.

The services included:

  1. A general health check-up: Blood pressure, heart rate, body mass index (BMI) measurement, and basic physical examination.
  2. Blood sugar screening: To identify early signs of diabetes and provide appropriate guidance.
  3. Respiratory assessment: Lung function tests to detect potential respiratory issues.

In conjunction with the health checkup camp, a dedicated session on asthma awareness was conducted by a pulmonologist. The asthma session covered topics such as:

  1. Understanding asthma: Causes, triggers, and risk factors.
  2. Asthma symptoms and early warning signs.
  3. Asthma management: Medication, inhaler usage, and lifestyle adjustments.
  4. Asthma action plan: Creating a personalised plan to manage asthma effectively.

A question and answer session was also held for the attendees. This in turn helped clarify all doubts and concerns of a person. Volunteers from Interact club and local health organisations played a pivotal role in assisting with registrations, guiding attendees, and ensuring a smooth flow of activities.

The event witnessed a significant turnout and proved to be a commendable initiative in promoting better health and well-being. Such initiatives are crucial in building a healthier and more informed society.

The fact that the health camp coincided with the parent teacher meeting day not only helped parents to examine and get detailed reports of their wards but also of their health. The school’s interact club looks forward to organising similar events in the future
