Vikash Singh works as the Face Manager at Tata Capital Company in Delhi. He heads a team of almost 70 members as they work closely on the marketing of Tata two-wheelers. Taking out time from his busy schedule, the alumnus from Apeejay School of Management (ASM) speaks what all an MBA taught him and advises youngsters to focus on self-development.

Read edited excerpts:

Were you trained well at ASM for the placement process?

Yes, they gave me the proper platform to enter into the industry. They trained me for interviews and group discussions during the prep classes. We also had mentorship classes from the first year itself where I was taught CV/resume writing. And I also worked hard on polishing myself.

What exactly is the role of a Face Manager?

I head a team of about 70 employees at work. I have to manage them, solve their queries and then report to my zonal manager. I am into the marketing of two-wheeler products. So, I have to sit at the office and also visit sites and dealer showrooms. There are no fixed working hours, I have to work till the work is over no matter how long it takes. It is a demanding job profile.

Is this job aligned with your future goals? Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?

I am gaining the perfect experience here. I want to go to a bigger brand where I see myself working on a bigger product. Hopefully, it will come to pass soon

Could you please brief us about your time at ASM?

The faculty is the best part about ASM. Especially the finance and marketing teachers, I want to thank them a lot. The teachers are very friendly and they always helped me , even in my personal growth. One could even talk to them beyond the classroom. Also, my classmates were very good, all studious and sharp people. It was a good experience overall.

One key lesson you learned from your MBA journey?

The self comes first. Focus on your profit first.
