Can Artificial Intelligence make human intelligence redundant? This thought-provoking question took centre stage at an Inter-House Debate Competition organised by Apeejay School, Kharghar, bringing together students of Classes IX–XII for an engaging exchange of ideas, arguments and perspectives on one of the most relevant issues of our times.
Inspired by the thought, Machines may learn to think, but only humans can dream, question and care, the competition encouraged students to explore the evolving relationship between artificial intelligence and human intelligence. Representing Sapphire, Ruby, Topaz and Emerald Houses, the young speakers stepped forward with confidence, presenting compelling arguments both for and against the motion.
The debate offered a platform for students to examine the possibilities and limitations of AI while reflecting on the qualities that distinguish human intelligence. From technological advancements and machine efficiency to creativity, emotional understanding, critical thinking and ethical decision-making, the participants explored multiple dimensions of the subject. Their well-reasoned arguments highlighted the growing influence of AI in everyday life while raising important questions about the role of human judgement in an increasingly technology-driven world.

Adding to the intensity of the contest, the interjectors posed quick-fire questions that challenged the speakers to think on their feet, defend their viewpoints and respond with clarity. The lively exchanges kept the audience engaged, demonstrating the participants’ ability to articulate ideas, listen critically and engage in constructive intellectual discourse.
Beyond the competition, the event provided students with a valuable opportunity to strengthen their public-speaking skills, develop logical reasoning and appreciate diverse perspectives. It also underscored the importance of using emerging technologies thoughtfully while nurturing the distinctly human qualities of empathy, imagination and independent thought.

After an electrifying contest marked by confidence, conviction and intellectual rigour, Emerald House emerged victorious. The achievement was celebrated with heartfelt congratulations to the winning team, while every participant was applauded for contributing to a memorable and enriching experience.
The debate reaffirmed that while technology continues to advance, the ability to question, imagine and think independently remains indispensable. At Apeejay School, Kharghar, young minds are being encouraged to engage with the future not merely as users of technology, but as thoughtful individuals ready to shape it.
