Balancing academics with personal growth isn’t an easy feat for students in Class X, a year that often defines their future academic choices. Yet, for Sparsh Puri, a bright student of Apeejay School, Mahavir Marg, the key lies in patience, kindness, and consistency. Recipient of the Dr. Stya Paul Award for Human Values, Sparsh believes that true education goes beyond books — it’s about becoming a good human being and uplifting others.
Read edited excerpts:
What does receiving the Dr. Stya Paul Award for Human Values mean to you?
It means a lot to me because I feel connected to Dr. Stya Paul sir and his vision for a compassionate, value-driven society. I honestly didn’t expect to receive it, but it motivates me to continue practicing kindness and empathy in daily life. It’s not about being perfect, but about trying your best to live by those values.
How do you ensure a balance between academics and character development in such a crucial year?

I manage my time carefully — even something as simple as scheduling my meals helps me stay organised. I make sure to dedicate time for both studies and extracurricular activities. This balance helps me stay calm, focused, and disciplined.
Can you share an example of how you’ve tried to help others in school?
There was a classmate who struggled both academically and socially. After our first-term results, I noticed he was very upset about his marks. I spoke to him, shared my own study routine, and introduced him to my friends so that he could open up more. I believe supporting others like this makes our classroom a kinder space.
You mentioned patience as a value students often forget. Why do you think it’s so important?
Nowadays, students look for instant results whether in studies or life because of the influence of the internet. But real success takes time. Patience helps you focus on long-term goals instead of distractions.
What are your hobbies and interests outside of academics?
I love playing the ukulele and basketball. My father gifted me the ukulele when I was in Class 8, and I instantly fell in love with its soothing sound. I also enjoy participating in school assemblies, plays, and annual functions.
