‘The teachers give children the encouragement they need to grow’

This parent has been living in Nerul for almost 20-plus years. Apeejay School, Nerul, is synonymous with excellent academic and holistic development. When it was time to look for a school for his daughter, the parent chose this school as he wanted his child to grow in a school that promotes academics and has a good reputation for academic excellence. Meet Dr Amit V Sashte, whose daughter, Anvayee, is now in Class V at this school.

In an impromptu interview, the parent shares his experience with this school, among other things.

How has your experience been at the school as a parent so far?

My daughter joined this school in junior KG, and my experience has been wonderful so far. I have been learning a lot myself as a parent. Earlier, I was on the other side as a student, and now, as a parent, I am seeing things from a completely different perspective.

I feel lucky to be a PTA member because it has helped me understand many things from the inside as well. I can also understand the teachers’ perspective better now, especially how difficult it can be to manage students and take care of everything that happens in the background.

What are some of the positive changes you have seen in her over the years?

First of all, she has become more confident. Her communication skills have improved a lot. Even at home, she often speaks in English with her friends, so that has helped her develop her communication skills further. She has also developed good manners and discipline.

How has the school helped in her academic and personal growth?

The school has played a vital role in her development. I have seen that the teachers at Apeejay School provide a very supportive learning environment. The teachers encourage students to participate not only in academic activities but also in extracurricular activities. Whenever there are competitions or activities, they motivate the students to take part. They tell them that they should participate and try. This gives children a moral boost and makes them feel that they have support and encouragement behind them.

What is one thing you really appreciate about the teachers and their way of teaching?

I really appreciate the teachers for their ever-helpful approach and positive attitude. They try to explain concepts clearly and encourage students to ask questions. Even though there may be a large number of students in a class, the teachers still try to pay individual attention to every child. They make sure that each student is taken care of and supported in the learning process.

Schools also help children become independent. Have you seen this in your daughter?

Yes, I have seen this change in my daughter. Earlier, when she was younger, maybe in Class I or II, most school projects were largely done by parents. But over the last one or two years, I have seen that she actively helps her mother with her projects.

In fact, I would say she now does more than 50% of the work herself. That sense of self-awareness has developed in her. She has also developed her timetable. Every day, she follows her routine.
