With grit, teamwork, and a never-say-die spirit, two budding footballers of Apeejay School, Rama Mandi, Jalandhar, have brought laurels to their school and the city. Gurshaan Singh Kooner and Arnav Punj of Class VIII recently clinched the first position in the Under-13 category at the 2nd Five Football National Championship 2025-2026, held in Jaipur, Rajasthan.
The championship witnessed fierce competition as teams from across the country vied for the coveted title. Yet, Gurshaan and Arnav stood out with their exceptional coordination, sharp reflexes, and unwavering focus. Every move they made reflected not only hours of rigorous practice but also their passion for the sport. Their stellar performance didn’t just win them the Gold — it earned them the honour of representing India at the Invitational International Football Championship 2025-2026 in Pokhran, Nepal.
Speaking about his winning strategy, Arnav said, “I play as a goalkeeper, ensuring a strong defense for my team. Together, we prefer a counter-attack strategy, turning defense into swift opportunities to outsmart opponents and secure victory.”

Having a similar line of thought, Gurshaan shared, “Playing as a left outside attacker brings me immense joy and pride. It’s a special, emotional moment filled with intense satisfaction. The thrill of creating opportunities and contributing to my team’s success is truly beyond words.”
Principal Mr AK Sharma and Vice-principal Ms Loveleen Bagga were all praised for their shining stars. Applauding their dedication, Mr Sharma remarked, “Gurshaan and Arnav are shining examples of how perseverance and discipline can help turn dreams into reality. Their achievement reflects the spirit of Apeejay Education — to nurture talent, instil values, and inspire every child to reach for the stars.”

Behind the medals and glory lies a journey of sacrifice and hard work. From early morning practice sessions to balancing academics with intense training schedules, the two young athletes have shown remarkable resilience. Their success story is a powerful reminder that talent flourishes best when combined with discipline and guided mentorship.
Mentioning how Apeejay School supported their talent and journey, both shared in unison, “Our school fully supports my journey by providing coaching, organising tournaments, and promoting overall well-being. The Principal encourages participation in matches, while teachers ensure my studies remain unaffected, guiding me to complete the syllabus on time and achieve good marks.”

The victory is not only a moment of pride for the school but also for the entire Apeejay Education community. The blessings of the revered Dr Stya Paul, Founder-Chairman, Apeejay Stya and Svran Group and the inspiration of Mrs Sushma Paul Berlia, Chairman, Apeejay Stya & Svran Group, Chancellor, Apeejay Stya University, and Chairman, Apeejay Education, continue to guide the school in its mission of holistic education — where academics and sports go hand in hand.
