A baking session at Apeejay School, Sector 15, Faridabad, gave students an opportunity to learn through doing as they stepped into the role of Cookie Detectives. The activity brought together food, nutrition and practical skills in a setting designed to make learning enjoyable and meaningful.
Students of the Preparatory Stage, Classes III to V, along with Class VI, prepared ragi-oat cocoa cookies during the hands-on culinary session. They took part in each stage of the process, from measuring and mixing ingredients to shaping and baking the cookies.
Learning beyond the recipe
The session went beyond preparing a snack. Students also learnt about kitchen safety and the importance of working carefully while handling ingredients and equipment. The activity encouraged them to observe closely, follow steps and work together as a team.
Creativity also found a place in the session as students shaped their cookies and participated actively in the process. Working alongside classmates helped strengthen collaboration while giving them space to enjoy the experience of creating something on their own.

Nutrition on the plate
An important part of the activity was understanding the ingredients being used. Students were introduced to the nutritional benefits of ragi and oats, including their fibre and essential nutrients. This helped connect the cooking activity with the idea of making healthier food choices.
The session also strengthened observation and basic culinary skills through direct participation. Measuring ingredients, following the process and seeing the cookies take shape allowed students to experience learning in a practical and enjoyable way.

By the end of the activity, a simple recipe had become an opportunity to explore food with greater awareness. The experience encouraged students to look at everyday ingredients differently while understanding how thoughtful food choices can become part of healthy eating habits.
