The Art of Man-making: ‘Teachers have taught me to respect the elderly’

Gen Z today isn’t content with simply achieving excellent academic results. They aim to excel in their chosen professions, but that’s just one part of their goals. Even more importantly, they aspire to be good human beings. To achieve this, they are willing to go the extra mile, embracing values that help them stand out from the crowd.

Meet one such student – Misham Bhardwaz of class XII at Apeejay School, Rama Mandi. With his career well in sight, he wants to pursue Computer Science, he defines human values are the principles or traits that a person possesses for various work in life.

How excited were you when you came to know that you’d got the award? 

I was very glad to hear that I would be getting the prestigious Dr Stya Paul Award. I had been shortlisted five times before but never cleared both written and oral interviews and it was disheartening. Since I managed to clear this time, I am thrilled!

Tell us about yourself.

I am in class XII and pursuing Science. I want to be an engineer and plan to take up Computer Science. I have been at Apeejay for the last 13 years!

What according to you are human values? 

In my view, human values are the principles or traits that a person possesses and applies in his/her life. 

What kind of values have you learnt from your parents? 

I have been taught honesty, charity, and compassion by my parents. There are a few street dogs near my house. I feed them biscuits.  They come to me like every day. I also help the underprivileged. I try and help them with whatever they need like food and clothing. The teachers have always taught me to be punctual and honest to elders.

Is it difficult to be honest today? 

With friends, it’s not always about honesty. It is more fun with them. But at serious moments, I have to be honest. In every other deal, I am always honest. If you lie, it will always come out sooner or later.

One trait that truly inspires you about Dr Stya Paul? 

His courage. He was a person with a disability and yet he dared to face all obstacles and founded the Apeejay Education.

What is the easiest way to help others?

All of us help the needy. But nobody thinks about the voiceless four-legged beings that need our help. Feeding those around you would be the easiest thing to do. And the best part is the love they bestow upon you; it is unmatched!

How do you keep yourself motivated and do acts of kindness? 

I mostly stay away from negative people and surround myself with like-minded people.
