MoE showcases impressive growth in higher education enrollment and inclusivity

The Ministry of Education (MoE) has unveiled the findings of the All India Survey on Higher Education (AISHE) for the academic year 2021-2022. According to the survey, the total enrollment in higher education has witnessed a notable increase, rising from 4.14 crore in 2020-21 to 4.33 crore in 2021-22. This represents a significant progression from the figures recorded in 2014-15, which stood at 3.42 crore.
A noteworthy trend is the surge in female enrollment in higher education, reaching 2.07 crore in 2021-22, a marked ascent from 1.57 crore in 2014-15. The AISHE report also highlights a remarkable 51 per cent rise in the enrollment of female Scheduled Caste (SC) students, totaling 31.71 lakh in 2021-22, compared to the figures in 2014-15.
Over the years, there has been considerable growth in the higher education landscape, with the establishment of 341 universities and university-level institutes since 2014-15. Additionally, the number of female teachers has increased, reaching 6.94 lakh in 2021-22, compared to 5.69 lakh in 2014-15. These findings underscore the positive trajectory and efforts in advancing higher education accessibility and inclusivity in India.
