Having moved from Kolkata after living there for nearly 24 years, the family was looking for a school for their children. Apeejay School, Greater Noida, was conveniently located for the family, and they also learnt about its sibling-friendly policies. Since they have three daughters, it was certainly helpful.
“Another important factor was the relatively smaller student strength. I felt that a smaller group would allow children to receive more individual attention and give them greater opportunities to participate and grow,” shares Shashi Kumar Singh, whose daughters Aadya and Riddhima are studying here in Classes II and V, respectively, in a candid interview.
What aspects of the school stand out to you?
The cultural environment and discipline are two aspects I particularly appreciate. I feel these make a difference. Grooming is another area where I have seen a positive change. For me, education is not only about the syllabus. The way children develop confidence, learn discipline and present themselves is equally important.
Changes in your daughters since joining the school.
I can see a difference in their grooming and confidence. Since the student groups are comparatively smaller, children get opportunities to interact more closely with their peers and teachers. I think this has helped my daughters become more comfortable and confident.
How has Aadya’s relationship with her teachers been?
When Aadya was in Senior KG, she was very attached to her Class teacher. She was very caring, and Aadya still remembers her fondly. Young children tend to form strong bonds with their teachers, so whenever there is a change, they sometimes need a little time to adjust. Her present teacher is also very caring and prompt. She stays in touch with Aadya’s mother from time to time, and our experience with her has been good.
Does Aadya actively participate in school activities?
Yes, she participates very actively. She is always interested in taking part in the different activities organised by the school. Children naturally get excited about events and programmes and want to be involved. I like that Aadya is enthusiastic and willing to participate. She is especially interested in music and dance. She enjoys both and receives good appreciation from her teachers. She also enjoys sports classes very much. Overall, she is a very active child and likes participating in different activities.
How would you describe Riddhima as a student?
She is a very active child. One thing I particularly appreciate about her is that she is willing to take initiative. The feedback I have received from her teachers is that she participates enthusiastically in class activities, takes responsibility and often comes forward when something needs to be done. At this age, I feel it is important for children to develop these qualities along with academics. Responsibility, initiative and participation will help them greatly as they grow.
What do you value most about your daughters’ school experience?
I value the overall grooming they are receiving. Discipline, cultural exposure, participation and confidence are all important parts of a child’s education. I can see my daughters becoming more involved, expressive and willing to take responsibility. For me, these are meaningful aspects of their growth.
