Alpana Kumari, a student at Apeejay Institute of Mass Communication, Dwarka, is a budding writer passionate about poems, Nazms and socially relevant writing. Inspired by literature during graduation, she began expressing her thoughts through words. Her writing explores everyday social issues, women’s education and societal challenges, while thoughtful research strengthens her perspectives. An avid reader of Hindi novels, Alpana admires Dr Radha Krishna Sahay’s storytelling. She credits Apeejay for providing guidance, perspectives and a platform to nurture her writing skills and develop a more thoughtful approach to society. Read edited excerpts:
When did you start writing? What inspired you to start with your writing journey?

During my graduation, I read many stories and gradually felt that I should also try to express my thoughts by putting my words together. That is when I started writing. After writing a research paper during my graduation, I started writing small poems as well.
What are the types of articles you write on? What inspires you to choose those topics?
I believe that presenting the issues happening around us before society can help draw people’s attention towards them. That is why I prefer choosing topics that are connected to society and the problems people face in their everyday lives.
Is there a particular time you prefer when writing? How about research before writing on any topic?
No, I don’t think there should be any particular time for writing. Whenever a thought or an idea comes to your mind, you should write it down. You never know, something new and different might come out of it.
Before writing on a topic, I try to understand it properly and do the necessary research so that I can present my thoughts in a better and more meaningful way.
What type of topics or books do you prefer reading? Any favourite author?
I am interested in reading Hindi novels, especially those that talk about social life, social problems and their solutions, and the status and education of women in simple and meaningful language.
My favourite author is Dr. Radha Krishna Sahay. I really admire the way he presents social issues through his stories and plays in a very beautiful and effective manner.
How is Apeejay helping you build your writing skills?
Apeejay has given me a platform where I can improve my ideas and develop my writing skills. It has also provided me with proper guidance and helped me develop a more thoughtful approach. Because of this, I have learned to look at things from different perspectives and understand the difference between what is right and wrong.
