Saanvi Chaurasiya is a budding poet at Apeejay School, Panchsheel Park. She is a class 7 student, who loves to write in rhyme and has recently penned down a delightful poem on Diwali last month.
Selected as this week’s Promising Poet, let us read what the young wordsmith has to say about her craft.
At what age did you start writing poetry?
At the age of nine, I think I started writing poetry. I have enjoyed it so much and I love writing poems.
What inspired you to write poems?
When I was 9 years old, I saw a few videos of myself as a child reciting some poems and it inspired me to start writing my own poems.
That’s quite an answer! Tell us the thought behind your poem Diwali?
Diwali was around the corner and I also liked the story behind Diwali so I thought of writing a poem on Diwali and also write the story behind it. Lakshmi and Ganesha are worshiped on this auspicious festival so I also wrote about them in my poem Diwali.
Who is your favourite poet and poem?
My favourite poet is Anne Brontë and my favourite poem is, Lines Composed in a Wood on a Windy Day.
The all-time poet’s question: Rhyme or free verse?
I prefer to rhyme in my self-composed poems.
Writing poems in the day or night?
I prefer writing poems at night. It is very quiet and the concentration improves a lot.
How does your school help you to write such lovely poems?
I read some of the Children’s World magazines at the school library which also helped me to write poems.
How do you approach writing a poem? How much time does it take you? What are your common writing themes?
I approach writing a poem by choosing a topic, writing down the keywords, framing them into rhyming sentences and then at last framing them into sequences and also reviewing them. I take at least 1-2 days to write a poem. The common writing themes include festivals, nature etc.
Finally, the best thing about writing poetry for you is?
That a poem is an opportunity to express myself.
