Books are the quietest and most constant of friends; they are the most accessible and wisest of counselors, and the most patient of teachers – Charles William Eliot
World Book Day is globally recognised as the celebration of literature and reading, which is observed annually on April 2. This day serves as a reminder of the importance of books in our lives, promoting reading as a fundamental aspect of education, culture, and entertainment worldwide. From timeless classics to contemporary works, books hold the power to inspire, educate, and unite people from diverse backgrounds.
This year the theme of the day was: Read Your Way. To encourage the students to read, Apeejay School, Charkhi Dadri celebrated World Book Day and English Language Day with great fervour and enthusiasm. The celebration was highlighted by a special assembly meticulously arranged by the enthusiastic students of class VIII, demonstrating their remarkable talents and deep-seated appreciation for literature and the English language.
The assembly began with a thought-provoking message which was delivered by Mokshita, a student of class VIII. She emphasised the profound impact of books on our lives and the vast opportunities they offer for personal growth. This initial address set a poignant tone for the proceedings, underscoring the enduring relevance of literature amidst the rapid pace of modern society.
Followed by her speech, Kartik Mittal, another student from class VIII, took centrestage and talked broadly about his passion for literature and the English language evident in every word he spoke. With an enthralling presentation, he held the audience spellbound, offering profound insights into our abundant literary legacy.
To keep things engaging and interesting, Saksham (classVIII) led an engaging interactive quiz, testing the students’ knowledge of renowned literary works, authors, and intriguing English language facts. This lively quiz not only assessed the students’ comprehension but also fostered active involvement and knowledge acquisition.
A creative flair was orchestrated by Diwakar, Simran, Jia, Gitika, and Himanshi (students of class VIII) demonstrated a captivating picture quiz. Through visual cues depicting renowned literary works and characters, the session sparked intrigue and fostered critical thinking among the audience. This innovative twist on quizzing not only added an element of excitement but also enriched the learning experience, engaging participants in a dynamic exploration of literature. The session was highly interactive and engaging.
A standout moment of the celebration was a thought-provoking English play performed by the students, emphasising the value of books and advocating for a balanced approach to technology.
The play passionately urged attendees to curtail excessive mobile usage, highlighting the enduring significance of literature in the digital era. Ananya Singh, captivated the audience with her emotive rendition of an English song, reinforcing the event’s theme and celebrating the richness of the English language through music.
However, it was a group dance performance that stole the spotlight, showcasing the students’ creativity and synchronised movements. The high-energy performance infused the event with vibrancy, leaving everyone impressed by the students’ remarkable talent and commitment.
The Principal of the school, Dr Vineet Vashishtha extended heartfelt appreciation to both students and teachers for orchestrating a truly unforgettable event. He underscored the profound significance of cultivating a passion for reading and language acquisition, recognizing them as indispensable tools for individual advancement and academic excellence.
