Unraveling COP28: Apeejay prof delves into climate change challenges

In a recent virtual address, Prof. Praveen Kumar, Dean of School of Legal Studies at Apeejay Stya University (ASU), delved into the pressing challenges ahead of COP28 (Conference of Parties) in mitigating climate change. The session was an integral part of the ‘Climate Change Consciousness in Law’ two-day workshop, organised by Cochin University of Science and Technology, Kerala. The session aimed to provide deep insights into the critical issues surrounding climate change.

Prof. Kumar commended the recent strides taken by the Conference of Parties during its 28th conference in Dubai, emphasising the pivotal role of COP28 in addressing the global climate crisis. He underscored the significance of every action, stating, “When it comes to the climate crisis, every action matters.”

During his address, Prof. Kumar outlined key aspects of COP28, including the imperative to limit global warming to below 1.5 degrees Celsius and reduce emissions to less than one-third of the current level. He stressed the need to increase climate funding for nature-based solutions to over 10% of the current allocation. Further, Prof. Kumar highlighted the universal importance of the session, stating, “Since Climate Change will even affect other species as well, this session is crucial not just for law students but for every common man living in any country.”
