Rajni Rathi is the mother of Diva Rathi, a class 5 student at Apeejay School, Noida. Apart from being a devoted mother, she is also a technology architect at Cognizant  IT Solutions. In an informal interview, the dynamic mother mentions how she lets Diva write the scripts for the competitions by herself since she wants her daughter to gain confidence. Edited excerpts:

How has Diva’s progress been at school?

It has been very good. I appreciate the school for their efforts. She is a very good student and loves to take part in different activities. Today, she submitted William Shakespeare’s sketch and a crossword puzzle based on his works as a part of her homework at school. She also participated in the SpellBee activity. Every month, there are various different activities at school. She is often among the Top 3 performers. She has gained a lot of confidence now.

As a parent, do you visit the school and participate in some of the activities ?

The school invited me to be the judge for the Hindi Kavita Vachan competition. I follow the school’s Facebook page and get to know about all the activities the school is organising such as Gratitude Day, Grandparents Day and others.

As parents, we are constantly updated by social media about the events organised at school. The school is involving the kids in many activities beyond academics.

I helped Diva prepare for the monthly activity in Hindi recently. As I want her to gain confidence, I encouraged her to write the script by herself and helped her in the process. In the Social Studies debate competition, on whether democracy was the best form of government or not, she was among the top 3 performers.

Is there any change in the functioning of the school from online to the offline mode?

The school is doing great in offline mode. The kids are very happy. In the online mode as well, the school made a lot of efforts to make each student feel connected. We would send videos of the child to the school teachers for the various extra-curricular activities. Now that the school has resumed offline classes,it organises several activities. These keep the students enthusiastic.

Are the teachers engaging well with the student?

Pawan sir, Rachna mam put in a lot of efforts. They even take music classes in the evening after the academic classes. Sulagna ma’am, the dance teacher, reviewed all the dance videos of the teachers and cooperated with parents to bring the best out of the child. I am surprised how teachers are managing so much work. They are all teaching well.
