This Jalandhar Institute organises ‘Connect and Converse’ to foster intellectual growth and exchange of ideas

The Economics Forum of the Department of Economics at Apeejay College of Fine Arts (ACFA), Jalandhar, organised an interactive session titled ‘Connect and Converse’ to engage students through meaningful learning, social interaction and the exchange of ideas. The session provided students an opportunity to expand their intellectual horizons, build academic connections and gain relevant knowledge beyond the confines of the curriculum.

Addressing the students, Dr. Supreet Talwar, Head, Department of Economics, emphasised the importance of thinking beyond the prescribed curriculum and adopting an out-of-the-box approach to learning. She also highlighted the need for students to acquire diverse skills that can contribute to their career development and help them respond effectively to the changing demands of the professional world.

The session also featured the formal introduction of the newly designated office-bearers of the Economics Forum. Ms. Gurleen Kaur was introduced as President, Ms. Srishti as Vice President, Mr. Rajveer Singh as Secretary and Ms. Purva as Treasurer. The event was successfully conducted by President Gurleen Kaur and Treasurer Purva under the guidance of Economics Department faculty members Dr. Simkee Dev and Ms. Aarti Gupta.

Adding an interactive and creative dimension to the programme, a series of activities was organised to make learning engaging and enjoyable. Students participated in a poetry recitation activity incorporating key economics terms, giving them an opportunity to explore the subject through creative expression. Economics-themed riddles encouraged participants to apply their conceptual understanding while thinking critically and quickly.

The Photographic Memory Challenge tested students’ observation and retention skills, while the ‘Sudoku Champion’ activity encouraged logical thinking and problem-solving. An Economics Quiz further tested participants’ subject knowledge and awareness, creating an atmosphere of healthy academic engagement.

Principal Dr. Neerja Dhingra presided over the event and addressed the gathering. She emphasised the importance of regularly organising such activities to instil self-confidence among students and foster contemporary awareness. She observed that platforms of this nature enable students not only to articulate their own viewpoints but also to make an effort to understand and appreciate the perspectives of subject experts.

The session thus provided a balanced blend of academic learning, creativity, interaction and skill development. By moving beyond conventional classroom teaching, ‘Connect and Converse’ encouraged students to approach economics with curiosity while developing communication, analytical and problem-solving abilities.

At the conclusion of the programme, Ms. Gurleen Kaur, President of the Economics Forum, delivered the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to the faculty members, college leadership and students for their support and participation.

The event reflected ACFA’s commitment to creating enriching academic platforms where students can learn collaboratively, express themselves confidently and develop skills that extend beyond textbooks.
