Arijit RoyIn the age when most boys and girls think of writing their first poem, Ritvik has already published a 450-page long science fiction novel. A class 9 student at Apeejay School, Saket, this wonder boy also understands the market well and has intelligently selected his target audience.
Meeting the author of the book, The Resurrection of Tomorrow, via a unique interview, let us see how Ritvik managed to write such a long book and what all promotion strategies he uses that put his book a notch above the others. Read edited excerpts:
Without giving us a spoiler, tell us briefly about the story?
Well, the story is about a world which is on the brink of destruction, where darkness threatens to consume everything, but a hero emerges to challenge this fate. Arlo, burdened by guilt and driven by the desire for redemption, leads a courageous fight against the malevolent forces that seek to obliterate his city. Joined by his loyal companions, Steve and Vera, Arlo embarks on a perilous journey through a dystopian landscape, confronting unimaginable creatures and uncovering the secrets of a power-hungry enemy. As the battles intensify and sacrifices increase, Arlo’s determination grows to bring about a better tomorrow. Hence the title, The Resurrection of Tomorrow, which promises you an epic tale of resilience, friendship, and the indomitable spirit of humanity.
Wow! That’s a lot to take in! What inspired you to write this book?
The idea of time travel has always fascinated me – going back to the past or racing into the future. Imagine being able to travel through time like flipping pages in a book. This was what inspired me!
It’s like a puzzle where you can explore how actions in one time affect everything else in another time. This curiosity about ‘what if we could change history’ or ‘see what lies ahead’ inspired me to create stories where characters venture through time, facing challenges and discovering the magic of rewriting moments or unravelling the mysteries of tomorrow.
This book is quite long. It has 450 pages. Most writers quit while writing such a long text. How did you achieve this and give us some tips for the same?
Crafting a lengthy book requires a combination of strategies and above everything else dedication.
1. To begin with, outlining is crucial – divide the plot into key events and arcs to maintain a clear direction.
2. Then develop multi-dimensional characters whose growth propels the story forward.
3. Consistency in creative writing is key so set regular and manageable goals.
4. Embrace rewriting and editing for that is how depth emerges.
5. Avoid over-description; let readers engage imaginatively.
6. Lastly, perseverance is vital. Stay passionate about your concept and willing to invest the time. Remember, the journey is as essential as the destination.
Impressive! So what marketing plan have you chosen?
The marketing plan works on a multi-faceted approach.
1. By leveraging social media platforms, targeted ads, and creating engaging content, I aim to build a strong online presence.
2. Collaborations with book bloggers and influencers will help generate a buzz about my book.
3. Virtual author interviews and online book launch events will help me connect directly with the readers.
4. And finally, a captivating book trailer, visually capturing the essence is being widely shared already. I am sure these tactics will ensure a wider visibility and help me resonate with my target audience.
Is this available on Amazon and other online platforms?
Yes, “The Resurrection of Tomorrow” is readily available across various online platforms. You can find the book on Amazon, both in physical format and on Kindle. Additionally, it’s accessible on Flipkart, Google Play Store, and Wissen Book Store. This wide distribution ensures that readers can easily access and enjoy the book through their preferred online channels.
Very impressive indeed! Do you see yourself as a professional author in the future?
Absolutely! But my primary aspirations lie in a different direction. I envision maintaining my role as a professional author only as a rewarding side pursuit. Writing is a passion that fuels my creativity and offers a meaningful way to express myself. Although I am focused on pursuing another career path, I wholeheartedly intend to continue crafting stories in my free time.
How did your school support you?
My school was very supportive throughout my journey. Whenever I had any doubts, I could reach out to any of my teachers and they were there to help me. Also, the librarian in-charge at the school helped me to make my story better. Apart from my school, my parents were always there for me. They were pillars of support. Thus, I want to thank my teachers, the school, and my parents.
Which writers do you look up to and which books inspire you?
My favorite authors include Christopher Paolini, Roald Dahl, J.K. Rowling, Suzanne Collins, and Stephen King. I always like to read sci-fi and fantasy. My favorite series include the Harry Potter Series and the Eragon Series. My favorite books are ‘The Boy’ and ‘Going Solo’ by Roald Dahl.
Any other book in the pipeline?
Certainly! I have started working on the plot of my second book. I always like to engage myself in something. This time, I am going to write a book in a different genre.
