Jesica Kumar from Apeejay School, Mahavir Marg, Jalandhar has a brilliant hand at Mandala Art. She has only recently picked up the brush, yet her drawings reflect such quality and precision. In this week’s Apeejay Aspiring Artist series,  the class 11 student says she wants to learn how to draw portraits and also gives a simple take on the nature of creativity. Read edited excerpts:

Since when did you start drawing?

I started drawing recently, you can say from 2018 to be precise.

Which art form brings out the best in you?

Mandala Art and abstract faces I would say! These two are my favourite art forms because I think Mandala art is very stress free as a drawing form. It relaxes my mind and calms me down. Additionally, it also trains my concentration power as it requires me to focus for some time. Abstract face drawings, on the other hand, are very colourful and I really enjoy making them.

How does your school encourage you?

My school supports me so much. Everyone at the school appreciates me a lot. A few days ago, I went to Principal ma’am with my artworks and she motivated me by sharing about various art competitions I could go to. My art teacher also encourages me a lot.

What is your definition of art?

I think art is all about creativity. Whatever we see, we just draw it.  Whatever is in our mind, we make it with our hands. As simple as it gets!

How do you approach artworks?

It depends on drawing. I usually love drawing nature sceneries and artworks.  Sometimes it takes me about 2-3 hours, while sometimes it may even take more than 10 hours.

What are your upcoming artworks based on?

As I said, I love drawing natural sceneries.  So, they will all be based on nature!

Any new artforms you wish to learn?

I wish to learn portraits because I think I’m not perfect in making portraits. I want to practice it and be perfect at it

Other hobbies apart from art?

I love dancing, travelling and seeing the ever-beautiful mother nature.
