The heart of Delhi resonated with an unparalleled mathematical fervour as the grand stage was set for the 12th Dr Stya Paul Memorial Mathematics Quest, a monumental two-day event that left an indelible mark on the minds of educators, students, and enthusiasts alike. On the resplendent days of July 21 and 22, 2023, the corridors of knowledge echoed with the spirit of inquiry, innovation, and learning, as participants from various schools converged at Apeejay School, Saket for a symphony of mathematical brilliance.

Day 1: A Prelude to Innovation and Exploration

The event’s inauguration was nothing short of a visual and auditory spectacle. Against the backdrop of a soul-stirring Ganesh Vandana, the ceremonial lighting of the lamp marked the commencement of the event, infusing the atmosphere with a sense of sanctity and purpose. Dr Sujeet Eric Masih, the visionary Principal, extended a warm welcome to the esteemed Chief Guest, Dr Parveen Bawa, Assistant Professor at Deshbandhu College, University of Delhi.

The spotlight shone on the erudite educators from various schools across Delhi-NCR as they unveiled their meticulously crafted research papers on “Innovative Teaching and Learning Practices based on NEP.” A kaleidoscope of ideas, methodologies, and approaches painted a vibrant canvas of educational possibilities. The pinnacle of this intellectual showcase was the awarding of the Best Paper accolade to Mr Mohit Chauhan, a deserving recognition of his exceptional contribution to the realm of mathematical pedagogy.

A Triumph of Mind and Method: The Inter-School Olympiad

But the quest for mathematical excellence did not stop there. The Mathematics Department orchestrated an ingenious spectacle – the Inter-School Olympiad competition. With challenges spanning three levels, from grades IV to XII, the digital arena transformed into a battleground of mathematical acumen and strategic prowess. Minds were tested, horizons were broadened, and champions emerged.

Speaking about the significance of the event, Ms Zenia Dutta, Head of Department, Mathematics at Apeejay School, Saket says, “The Math Quest began in 2012 in our school as a way of honouring our beloved Founder-Chairman, Dr Stya Paul. He was a brilliant mathematician and academician.”

Day 2: Where Inspiration Meets Ingenuity

The second day of the event was graced by the presence of Dr (Smt) Chandrika Kaushik, an illustrious Outstanding Scientist and Director General of Production Coordination & Services Interaction (PC & SI) at DRDO. Her presence added a touch of stardust to the proceedings, igniting the stage for the exhilarating day ahead.

Five riveting competitions stood as testament to the participants’ dedication and creative prowess. The day was set ablaze with presentations that intertwined the beauty of mathematics with real-world applications. Bhavya Katayan and Nitesh Bhandari, the dynamic duo from grade IX, left an indelible mark with their illuminating presentation on “Mathematics Around Us.” Their insights transcended the confines of textbooks, breathing life into the subject and inspiring all in attendance.

From the intricate geometric dance of ‘Origeometry’ to the rhythmic symphony of ‘Pattern-O-Metry,’ the event embraced the fusion of art and mathematics. ‘Warli and Math,’ ‘Mathematics Model Making,’ and the enthralling ‘Mathematics Extempore’ competition kindled a spark of innovation that illuminated every corner of the event.

According to Ms Meenu Sehgal, TGT Math at Apeejay, Saket, “The programme allowed for a healthy exchange of ideas between educators and students.”

Culmination and Commendation: The Grand Finale

Winners basked in the spotlight, their exemplary presentations and performances applauded by a captivated audience. The 12th Dr Stya Paul Memorial Mathematics Quest had woven a tapestry of inspiration, knowledge, and camaraderie, leaving an enduring legacy in the annals of mathematical exploration.

In a resounding crescendo of success, the event emerged as a true celebration of mathematical curiosity, a platform where innovation soared and potential found its wings. The resolute spirit of inquiry, the symphony of creativity, and the harmonious convergence of minds left a permanent mark on all who were fortunate to witness the spectacle. As the curtain fell on this grand mathematical symposium, the echoes of learning and inspiration continued to reverberate, leaving a promise of even greater mathematical adventures on the horizon.
