Lockdown: A break from the tedious world

Lockdowns and curfews were some unusual terms for us some years ago. However, since the beginning of 2020, India has been in a consistent state of lockdown with some ease of curbs in some parts of the country. Houses have transformed into online schools, colleges and offices. Many entertainment productions have been shut and are facing massive losses.

Several professionals lost their jobs while others became self-employed through small businesses from home. We all have had a mixed reaction to the situation but these limitations have been a blessing in disguise for biodiversity.

With the factories shut down, the effluent discharges have reduced and Nature has been able to revive itself. Our environment is at its best and animals have been spotted moving about freely across places. In some areas, even sea turtles have been spotted. The most surprising element is that with the reduction of air pollution, people in Punjab can see Himalayan Ranges from more than 100 miles away.

It has surely been a problematic situation for many people who worked as per daily wages. While some of us have enjoyed streaming web series and movies on OTT platforms, and re-watching the first Ramayana and Mahabharata, the lockdown has come with its own set of challenges for everyone. However, one thing is for sure: This time has given us a break from the tedious world outside.
