Civic knowledge and active participation in the democratic process are foundational to the health and longevity of any democracy. In India, where the world’s largest democracy thrives, the role of informed and active citizens is particularly significant.

The key institute of this democracy is the Lok Sabha, the lower house of India’s Parliament. For students, promoting knowledge about civic duties and encouraging voting in the Lok Sabha elections are crucial aspects that contribute to a robust democratic society.

To help students know, understand, and learn more about the essence and importance of the same, Apeejay School, Panchsheel Park took a significant step towards promoting electoral awareness and civic duty among its students.

During the school’s Parent-Teacher Meeting (PTM), a special activity was organised for the students of class VI. This initiative aimed to evoke a sense of enthusiasm for healthy electoral participation and to motivate parents to vote in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

The event was designed to be both educational and entertaining, focusing on the importance of voting and participating in elections. The students showcased their enthusiasm and understanding of civic duty by presenting engaging skits that highlighted various aspects of electoral awareness.

These skits were meticulously prepared to convey the significance of voting, the electoral process, and the impact of each vote on the democratic fabric of the nation.

This underscored the importance of voting, elucidated the election process, and illustrated the profound impact of every single vote on democracy. Through their creative performances, the young learners effectively communicated the message of responsible citizenship, urging parents to actively engage in the electoral process. This initiative was met with widespread acclaim, with many parents commending the students’ dedication and commitment to democratic principles.

Promoting knowledge of civic duties and encouraging voting among students is essential for the health and future of India’s democracy. By understanding their rights and responsibilities, fostering critical thinking, and actively participating in the electoral process, students can contribute to a more accountable, representative, and vibrant democratic society.

Educational institutes, civic organisations, and the government must work together to ensure that the younger generation is well-prepared to take on their role as informed and active citizens.
