‘I aspire to contribute meaningfully to my nation’

Yukta, an alumnus of Apeejay School, Panchsheel Park, is currently pursuing Political Science Honors at ARSD college, University of Delhi. In this insightful conversation, she discusses her inspiration for choosing this path, her ambitions, and her cherished memories from school. Read edited excerpts:

What inspired you to pursue Political Science Honors?
I found the subject incredibly interesting. I have a deep curiosity about how the government operates, the rights of citizens, and the mechanics of state governance. And Pol Sc is also linked directly to my career aim. 

And what are your career aims?
I’m aiming for the UPSC and other government exams, as I aspire to contribute meaningfully to our nation.

Now, reflecting on your Humanities classes, what subjects did you have?
I studied English, Economics, Psychology, History, and, of course, Political Science. Each subject added a unique perspective, and I truly enjoyed the learning process.

But many students shy away from Humanities due to societal taboos. What advice would you give?

Indeed, there is a social stigma, but I don’t subscribe to it. I chose the path that felt right for me, driven by my passion and interests.

So, tell us your fondest memories from school?
I cherished every moment at school, having studied there since Nursery. I participated in numerous competitions, like dance and racing, and loved learning Social Science. The teachers were incredibly supportive, making my school experience unforgettable.
