In an inspiring address to the students on National Voters’ Day 2024, Prime Minister Narendra Modi reaffirmed his commitment to the dreams of first-time voters, emphasising their crucial role in shaping India’s future through the democratic process. Listening to the speech from the committee room at Apeejay Stya University (ASU), Modi’s virtual engagement with the Nav Matdata Sammelan underscored the value of each vote and the transformative power it holds in determining the country’s direction.

On a day marked by the celebration of democratic spirit and participation, the Prime Minister’s message resonated with the youth, highlighting the importance of their participation in the electoral process. His address, part of the National Voters’ Day (NVD) events, not only aimed to enlighten but also to motivate the new generation of voters, whom he affectionately termed Amrit Peedhi or the golden generation. This term aligns with the Centre’s vision of leading India towards a century of independence, dubbed Amrit Kaal, signifying a golden period of progress and unity.

The Prime Minister’s outreach didn’t just start with his address. A day before, he took to the social media platform – X – to urge the youth to register themselves on the electoral rolls, thus celebrating and being an active part of India’s vibrant democracy. His words were not just a call to action but a guarantee that the aspirations of the youth are a priority in the nation’s path forward.

The celebration of National Voters’ Day, celebrated every year on January 25, commemorating the foundation of India’s Election Commission, has always been a significant event. Dedicated to the voters, the NVD 2024 theme – Nothing Like Voting, I Vote For Sure – is a continuation of last year’s theme. However, this year, it carried a special resonance as it marked the 75th year of the Commission’s establishment. Through various voter awareness campaigns and events, the day seeks to instill a sense of responsibility among citizens, especially the youth, to participate in the democratic process actively.

The coordinated efforts by the NSS ASU in hosting this event at the university level reflect a broader commitment to fostering democratic values among the younger generation. By connecting the youth with leaders like PM Modi, the event not only highlighted the pivotal role of votes in democracy but also empowered students to envision their role in India’s journey towards a brighter, more inclusive future.

In essence, the Prime Minister’s address on National Voters’ Day served as a powerful reminder of the strength of democracy and the critical role of the youth in sustaining its vibrancy. By casting their votes, the new generation of voters is not just participating in an electoral exercise but is actively contributing to shaping the trajectory of the nation towards its golden period, Amrit Kaal.
