Every year on the first Sunday of August, people around the world come together to celebrate Friendship Day. It’s a day to honour and cherish the special bonds that connect us with our dearest friends across the world. Friendship Day serves as a reminder that friendship is a universal language that transcends barriers of time, distance, and cultural differences.

For students, friends play a significant role in shaping their lives. The college years are often marked by memorable moments and lifelong friendships. From sharing lunchboxes to laughing over silly jokes during breaks, these friendships provide a support system that lasts well beyond the campus.

Ashita Goel, a BJMC Student at Apeejay Stya University, Gurugram, expresses, “Friends are the vivid threads that add colours to my canvas, painting my world with love and support. They are the pillars that lend strength when I falter and the light that guides me out of the shadows.”

Friendship in the digital age

In an era that is dominated by technology and social media, the concept of friendship has evolved on differently. With the rise of digital platforms, friendships have extended beyond borders. Pen pals are no longer limited to sending letters; they can now connect instantly through video calls, WhatsApp or Instagram messages and share experiences in real-time.

Friendships mean overcoming challenges together. This relation, like any other, is not always smooth sailing. They go through challenges, arguments, and disagreements, which are a natural part of any relationship. However, true friends find a way to work through these tough times and grow stronger together.

There is no age barrier. Friendships are not limited to peers alone; they can bridge generation gaps as well. Interacting with people of different ages exposes students to a wealth of knowledge and wisdom.

Rahul Gupta, an alumnus of Apeejay Institute of Mass Communication, expressed, “I used to commute from Noida to Dwarka on a daily basis, and the trip always seemed to take less than 15 minutes. We used to finish all of our classes at 5 p.m., but still, we would leave campus by 7 p.m. It’s all thanks to my annoying yet close, loud yet understanding, strange yet familiar friends. Thank you for making my college days comfortable, funny, and special. Thank you for the gift of your friendship – a treasure beyond measure.”

As Friendship Day approaches, let’s cherish this special bond. The dayserves as a reminder to express gratitude and love to our friends who make our lives brighter and more meaningful.

Lakshita Kandpal, a Trainee Account Executive at Adfactors PR and an alumna of Apeejay Institute of Mass Communication, says, “During first year of college, two friends became family. I came to Apeejay with academic and professional expectations; little did I know that I’d find two best friends of my life. Ravi and Pooja have been my biggest pillars of strength, support, and motivation in the last one year. Here’s hoping to cherish their love and friendship for a lifetime.”

In a world filled with constant challenges, friends provide the comfort of knowing that you are not alone. They stand by us in our darkest hours and celebrate our joys. As students cherish their friends and create beautiful memories, they are also learning the value of empathy, compassion, and understanding.

Friendship Day is a celebration of these remarkable connections that have the power to shape lives and create bonds that last a lifetime. So, on this special day, let us all take a moment to cherish the friends we have and reach out to those we’ve lost touch with. Because, in the end, it’s these bonds that make life truly extraordinary.
