August 15, 1947 was a red letter day in the history of India when our nation earned her freedom. It took hundreds of years to break shackles of slavery. Every year, the day reminds us of the countless and valiant sacrifices of our great freedom fighters. It’s a day that represents the true spirit of courage and freedom. And so, every year each of us celebrate this momentous day with great pomp and show.
This year India is celebrating its 75 years of independence and to commemorate the same, a nationwide celebration ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ is being observed.
In line with the nationwide week-long celebrations, Apeejay Svran Global School conducted a special assembly to commemorate the significance of this day and the valour of our greaterleaders, who sacrificed their lives selflessly for the freedom of our nation. The day commenced with a fabulous display of march past by the students. Elated by the feeling of patriotism, students of all classes walked holding the national flag.
Following the march past, class 12 student Nishtha briefed the school on the government-led initiative Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav and exhorted her fellow batchmates and juniors to actively participate in the campaign ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’. “This is a precious day for each one of us. We extend our love and gratitude to all the freedom fighters and soldiers on borders who are firmly committed to protect the territorial integrity and sovereignty of our nation. I just loved today’s assembly, it was extremely special,” she expressed.
Adding further, Nishtha mentioned that she loves the song Har Karam Apna Karenge Aye Watan Tere Liye. “The song rightly highlights how each one of us holds the responsibility for the growth and development of our country and it’s our moral duty to execute our bit.”
In the end, students recited the national pledge as well as sang the national anthem.
Marking this week-long celebration for the upcoming Independence Day, the school has also planned a series of activities for students. Each of the activities are themed on patriotism, freedom fighters, independence, and so on.
Students from classes 6-8 participated in Hindi Poem Recitation activity. For the same, students had to recite a patriotic poem that would aptly pay homage to the freedom fighters to whom we owe our independence.
Sharing how class 8 student Jia Narangconceptualised her poem, she said, “I recited a poem on ‘How the freedom fighters fought for our country and how our country got independence’. I composed some bits of the poem on my own and for the rest, I took help from Google. I will also be participating in the poster making activity.” The 13-year-old further emphasised, “I am very grateful to the people who fought for our freedom and I think the series of patriotic activities that we are doing is a very good way to pay tribute to them.”
As part of the upcoming activities, a session on ‘Important Facts on National Anthem’ will also be conducted along with others like quiz on ‘National Flag of India’ and ‘Monuments of India’, rosette making, flag making, dance and song performances, fancy dress, fitness drill, and poster making, to name a few.
