Modern parenting values the autonomy of children. Today’s generation is growing at a rapid pace. It is crucial to equip them with patience, care and promote adaptability. It is also important to respect the independence and interest of your child which will foster a positive parent-child relationship.

Therefore, Nupur Puri, an ex-kindergarten teacher and mother of Samsara, a student of class II, studying at Apeejay School, Mahavir Marg says that this school has been a game-changer for her child.

Excerpts from the interview:

Why did you choose this school for her?

I chose this school since I had received numerous recommendations from my friends and family. Moreover, my uncle is an alumnus of Apeejay School, Faridabad as well as a cousin. After hearing great tales from him about his school journey, I was sure that the school was different from others.

Also, I am from Delhi and was amazed to know that Apeejay has several branches across India. This made me realise that the school is well-established and is renowned. Since Samsara is my only child, I wanted her to get the best education, therefore, we landed upon the decision to finalising this school for her.

Are you satisfied with the teaching methods?

As soon as I moved to Jalandhar, I got to know that Apeejay has a branch here as well. I was so happy and instantly decided to get Samsara admitted here. I am very satisfied with the study material and the teaching pattern which they follow. The best part about this school is, they focus on extracurricular activities alongside following appropriate teaching methods.

Is she active in any extracurricular activities?

Yes. My daughter loves sports, and she eagerly waits for her Physical Education classes. Other than that, she takes full participation in underlying activities like dance and annual functions.

Mention some of her favourite subjects at school.

At such a young age, she has a really sharp mind, especially when it comes to solving mathematical problems. Her favourite subjects are English and Math. Recently, she has started to develop an active interest in Environmental Studies.

Are there any notable changes in her behaviour ever since she joined this school?

Yes. She has become disciplined and obedient. At times, she is naughty but is mostly well-mannered.

How do you encourage your child to read at home?

Honestly, I never had to force Samsara  to spend some time reading at home. She is an exceptional reader and possesses good speaking skills at such a young age. If you ask her to read, you will be amazed to see how she will read the entire chapter in front of you. Moreover, my daughter remains highly active with reading her storybooks as well as newspapers at times.

Does the school uses some specific strategies to help her develop good study habits?

School plays an important role in the development of a child’s mental ability. One thing which I like the most about the teachers of this school is, that before teaching any chapter, the teachers ask the students to first read the chapter themselves. This helps a child to develop a sense of familiarity with what is being taught. Post the reading part, teachers explain the chapter thoroughly and then move towards the back exercises. This unique and step-by-step approach genuinely helps children to absorb more knowledge.

What is your parenting mantra?

I don’t force Samsara for anything. We have maintained a timetable for her which helps her understand the true essence of time management. It is very important to handle this generation with utmost patience and there should not be any external or parental pressure on our kids.
