 Apeejay Stya University celebrates World Environment Day with enthusiastic plantation drive

Apeejay Stya University commemorated World Environment Day with an inspiring plantation drive that saw enthusiastic participation from students, faculty, and staff. This green initiative resulted in the planting of over 150 saplings, marking a significant step towards environmental sustainability and reinforcing the university’s commitment to a greener future.

The celebration began with a powerful message from the Registrar, who emphasised the urgent need for sustainability in today’s rapidly changing world. His speech highlighted the importance of environmental stewardship and inspired the participants to actively engage in the plantation drive. The Registrar also announced a notable commitment: the university will plant a tree in the name of every student upon their admission. This initiative underscores the institution’s dedication to fostering a greener, more sustainable future for all.

Faculty and staff from various departments actively participated in the event, demonstrating a strong collective commitment to environmental conservation. Distinguished professors such as Prof. Moinuddin, Prof. Vimala Veeraraghavan (Professor Emeritus), and Prof. Chetan Chaudhary (Registrar) joined hands with other faculty members and students in planting the saplings. Other notable participants included Prof. Sanjay Ahirwal (Dean of Student Welfare), Prof. Ananda Padhan (Head of the School of Education), Dr. TK Sahu (Head of the School of Design and Visual Arts), Dr. Vijay Kumar (Program Coordinator of NSS), Mohsin Khan (Deputy Registrar), and Dinesh Dudeja (Admin Officer).

The event was not just a tree-planting exercise; it was a symbolic gesture towards fostering a culture of environmental responsibility within the university community. By involving a diverse group of participants from different departments, the event highlighted the importance of collective action in tackling environmental issues. The participation of senior faculty members and administrative officers added gravitas to the initiative, inspiring students to take their environmental responsibilities seriously.

The positive feedback from participants underscored the success of the event. Students expressed their appreciation for the opportunity to contribute to a meaningful cause, while faculty and staff highlighted the importance of such initiatives in raising awareness about environmental issues. The event also served as a platform for the university community to come together, fostering a sense of unity and shared purpose in the quest for a sustainable future.

Sharing his thought, Harsh Sah, student pursuing M. Tech Biotechnology at the School of Biosciences, ASU says, “On this World Environment Day, let’s heed the plea, to safeguard our Earth for you and me. Every green choice, every seed we sow, ensures a brighter future where nature can grow.”

Apeejay student Kirti said, “Plant more trees and fulfil the duty of preserving life.” For 4th semester B Ed student Reema Pandey embracing nature is biggest feeling of being independent.”

Another 4th semester B Ed student Manjeet Kour Bali emphasised,  “Don’t waste the EARTH; it is our jewel!”

All in all, the World Environment Day plantation drive at Apeejay Stya University was a resounding success. The institution’s commitment to planting a tree for every new student, highlighted the university’s dedication to environmental sustainability. This initiative not only beautified the campus but also reinforced the importance of collective action in preserving our planet for future generations.
