Tell us about yourself.

I work at Antarang, a non-profit organisation. With over 20 years of experience and having lived in four different countries, I am passionate about helping young people find good careers. I help students from diverse backgrounds with soft skills. I understand the difference between just having a job and building a long-lasting career. I also provide guidance on how to set career goals for students hailing from disadvantaged and different socio-economic backgrounds. I don’t just work for financial reasons but with an aim to do something for others. My world of work is so different from that of a corporate world!

How has Apeejay School shaped your career?

Apeejay has been one of the most important influencers in my life. The school gave me an extraordinary moral compass which honed my IQ as well as EQ. I grasped commendable communication skills as I was actively involved with debates and theatre groups at school. This is the best school not because I am an alumna but because of the secular aspect it holds. The school’s motto: Soaring High is My Nature resonates perfectly with its ethos.

Challenges you faced and how you overcame them.

Balancing work and home life can be a challenge. But because I’ve always been eager to work and achieve something meaningful in life, I never stopped working. In my line of work, it’s more about giving than receiving. Sometimes, I would find it challenging to guide young people, as I was unsure about the best way forward. However, I managed to overcome this challenge by understanding their strengths, weaknesses, and goals. By developing empathy, I gradually made everything work.

Why did you decide to return to India?

I came back to India for personal reasons. I always wanted my children to imbibe Indian culture. I did not want them to be confused about their origin. Family is all we have. It is essential for them to spend time with their grandparents, cousins, and other relatives. What can be better than working and growing in your native country?

Advice to present Apeejayites.

Be very proud of your school, the way I am. It is important to understand the concepts of whatever subject you may take, and not just by heart. It’s not always about the grades, but about what you absorb.
